This is not uncommon living in landed properties, my parent's neighbours have 6 cars and they park 4 cars in the garage but use the other 2 cars to alternate and "chop" the road space in between our house preventing my other neighbours from parking.

When we were doing reno, this ugly neighbour walked in to our property and started taking pictures and videos to complain to NEA. The NEA officer came just to check, but because the contractor was following the noise guidelines, they also just simply shake their heads and could only say that they have a job to do.

Many selfish neighbours.

I only hope things will be better in future.

But such things seems more common in landed

I supposed its because the amount of inconveniences

caused from the reno are more acute.

But there is no need to be hypocrite. At the beginning stage, i keep apologising for the inconveniences until he asked me to stop or will start calling me Mr sorry but now this kind of pattern!!

Alas..

Oh yeah my father had his car scratched during the renovation, as our driveway had to be resurfaced and the car was parked outside, so don't be surprised.

Main Contractor

a nice guy. Quote was the lowest and made several adjustments after we made several comparison with competitive quotes. Claim that he can finish the work in 6months. We were so happy when he says he can achieve the work in that period cos it will mean we can have our Xmas, NY and CNY in our new house!.

After signing the contract, deal done! He started demolishing part of the house, the patio in particular.. no pics here cos i didnt really bother to go down much when they were doing the demolition. First sign of strain in working relationship is the PE starts scolding him for doing so without a permit.. blah blah blah.. i dint really care much.. not my problem.. demolition restarted when he received the permit..

The house design need us to tear down quite a number of existing columns, leaving about 4-5 main columns as support for the house. It was a rather major change from the existing structure.. Anyway, this is now considered a Reconstruction rather than an A&A. Anyhow, one day, i decided to pop by to see how the demolition was going on.. to my :jawdrop: the house was flattened.. no one even informed me.. :furious:

imagine if i didn't go down, i will never know... so i found out later that the structure was deemed unsafe by the PE and has to be re-erected.. gosh.. first sign of my wavering trust on the team..

looking at the speed of the work and delays because of permit, drawings blah.. everyone blaming everyone on the delay, i decided that it is better that i get some insurance by getting the main con sign a non-completion letter and compensate me on a daily rate if he exceed the time given.. took me 1 month to ensure that he signed it.. I even gave him 2 more months extension from the contractor timeframe.. date extended to 8Jan...

Our Neighbours...

One day when we visited our place when it was still early days during the reno, our neighbour pop out and say hi.. very nice man look to be in his late 50s... he started greeting us and tell us many stories about the neighbourhood.. after awhile, he started telling us the dos and donts to stay there..

Both myself and wtb listen intensely like a young couple (not so young la) receiving words of wisdom..

He went on and on about which neighbours are not in good terms with who and who.. and why we shouldnt park at certain part of the road, blah blah.. gosh.. so many rules to follow?? in my mind i was thinking why so many things to say one... neighbour help each other can liao mah.. anyway that was the first meeting..

after that everytime i go there, he will serve us drinks... he even went to our half baked house and give us a few pointers here and there.. I was really trying to be polite as the reno really inconvenients him quite abit, his being the adjacent house and some adjacent walls are affected..

Anyway, the relationship was really on a very amicable basis. Me and WTB were still thinking what a nice neighbourhood...........Until one day, he was very upset when he saw us.. after realising that we are shifting the entrance of our house.. he says we disturbed the peace of how cars are parked now.. as mine is a corner unit and at the end of the road, many household parks their car right infront of my unit.. anyway. tough to explain but our change in entrance did cause abit of changed in the norm..

me and wtb was like oh.. "did we created some animosity before we even move in... " and the truth fact is "YES" we did..

Recently, my contractor and PE was telling me that the authorities started asking alot of questions on our project.. and it was not common that they asked all these questions as those are not the norm.. we were even asked to cut out a piece of our structure for testing!!! My contractor and PE says, someone must have complained to the authority and they have no choice but to take action.. what the ****... all finger points to my immediate neighbour.. he is obviously still very upset with the gate changed!!!! He says now all the cars have to use his gate as the turning point rather than mine!!! :furious:

Anyway, for CNY, I sent them a hamper just to try to make peace..

i dont know what else i can do to such a bossy neighbour.. everything i did was with proper authorization....

forgive my rattling.. but what to do?? :dunno:

what a great start to our new life... :curse:

hmz.. not on sales, we bot them at GWC few months ago.. got sales ar.......... ????????? where? what products? I need a few more chairs..

From your story, I suddenly recall the 'notorious' Joo Jiat neighbours case. :jawdrop:

I think neighbours play a very important role in the place we lived. Well, for us at least. During our house hunting, we did chanced upon several nice and ideal units. But after surveying the neighbourhood, we gave several up. For the case of HDBs, may I please comment...

1. Why do they want to hang their clothes outside their door walk way?

2. Why must they hang their bird cage(s) outside their house?

3. If you keep a cat/dog, please ensure they are kept within your home premise or if they need to come out, ensure they are always supervised.

4. Worst case...I have seen some joker putting a sofa outside their house. :jawdrop:

Gosh...think I better get use to this as I'll be moving to a HDB when my reno is done. :disturb: haha

my neighbour also hang their clothes outside their door but lucky doesnt face us la.. they are a big family, so i reckon they run out of hanging space in the house.

Birdcage are hang outside to let the bird get a tan! :sport-smiley-004:

Really cannot wait, yours is one of the most radically designed landed homes I have seen in concept. It paves a new way of building designs, just see new buildings these days.

hi xebay

well, we didn't want a conventional design.. as i said in my first few posting, this is a very bold thing to do and can cuts both way. Especially, thinking about the resale value provided of cos if we are ever going to sell. We just felt that there are too many similar houses out there and we were quite upset with designers who simply cut and paste from each other.. we wanted originality yet not too overdone.. it was hard to balance frankly and we are still having arguments around some part of it..
