My dream black and white kitchen with glossy tiles!!! Hahah. So nice and bright. But staying with parents, so have to get matt/rough tiles for them, safety concerns. They cook daily, if it's white glossy laminates, I can't imagine the cleaning they/me have to do. :D

It's good to let your ID know that you are taking photos and blogging the entire renovation process, all the good and the bad will be showcase accordingly.

If they choose to leave the list of defects as it is ... can't blame us for bringing it up. Most consumers take the good for grant and focus on the bad side of things. The internet savvy will come across this forum, then they will be shortlisted, in the blacklist that is.

- plenty of open drill holes inside cabinets

My kitchen cabinet has the same problem too. Ho Bee did my carpentry work. I would be very happy to know if you can manage to get it fix bcos I can't think of any solution besides changing the whole cabinet.

- less than black grout lines for black tiles

Frankly speaking, I personally think this is not a good job by Ho Bee. Grey grout lines to match with glossy black tiles?? Fail to produce a seamless look, at the same time, unable to show the contrast of 2 diff colors.

BTW, I suggest you get HB to fix their problems rather than to ask for refund. I ever managed to get them to refund me a small amount. Afterthat, they never turn up to fix a problem I reported. After 2 mths, I gave up on them.

So, do maintain a good relationship with your contractor unless you are sure you don't need their aftersale service again.

Really quite alot of defects...your electrician very bad lor...its their fault to have throw away your lightings glass cover and they should compensate you...how can they ignore & refused to pay you!!! Bad guys!!

You must inspect one more time to see if there is anymore defects or not...then when they come tell them to rectify all at once...how can HB do such a 'chin chye' job??

Wah seh, that's quite a long list of defects. It doesn't really sound like HB to do such a sloppy job, as they have quite a good rep here woh. :( Hope that they will rectify all the faults for u nicely bah. :)

wow!!!so many defects ah!?

u should not pay the last cheque untill they rectify the whole things!

i am lucky to get a responsible ID that whenever we call,he ask me is

there anything for him to rectify? :sport-smiley-003:

The grout lines is very obvious!before the carpentry work,u should have told them about it already!

some contractor act blur and do a shabby job! :bangwall:

blame myself for being so super blur. i only did a casual QC during the handover. if i had a 2nd person with me, could have helped pinpoint the many defects which i failed to spot.

pls advise if there is anything that can be done about the grout lines now?

have contacted HB about the wall which was not plastered and painted , they said they will arrange to have the missing portion painted. open date though :( as for the slipshod plastering and painting in the storeroom, i won't bother because any more rectification work will just dirty the whole place again.

as for the electrician, have tried umpteenth times to get him to compensate me the $30 but failed. he refused to admit he was in the wrong and simply hung up the phone. guess i will just have to write that off.

for the open drill holes, i will simply stick scotch tape over haha. Sun Hup is my carpenter, not Ho Bee.

HB specifically told me beforehand that they will do black grout lines....maybe that grey is black to them?

frankly, i am completely clueless about a lot of reno matters, hence even if something is defective i may not even know!

how did you work out the refund from HB? i want to seek a refund too for the slipshod work in the storeroom, and possibly the grout lines?

have read the horror stories in your blog and really respect you for your sheer meticulousness. i certainly would not have noticed a lot of the stuff you highlighted.

frankly, i would rather ask for refund than rectify the faults. the thought of cleaning up the cement and mess again simply terrifies me.

Anyone here used 138 Professional Movers?

Have engaged them for my move next week, after reading rave reviews about them on this forum. so far, found their service absolutely appalling. No one returned my call despite leaving 5 messages in 24 hours. No one wanted to confirm (via SMS or Email) my move time and date as well. Is it the normal practice that a verbal confirmation will suffice? Very worrying, coz initially they kept insisting they could not accede to my timing, then subequently they said they could.

But their quotation is the lowest so far. All other movers i contacted were charging me more than double or even triple what they quoted.

$120 for entire move, regardless of distance. hopefully no hidden costs. i have very few large items anyway, so maybe that accounts for the low quote. also if your unit is not on lift level, cost may be higher. other movers were quoting me much higher at between $280 to $400.

Err...may I please comment but please don't shoot me k? I still love reading your thread sister & I really felt the joy you had on the house and fustration which you were faced in some incidents :dancingqueen:

You know, I used to be a super YIM JIM person. At the end of the day, the person who is suffering is us. Very XIN KU leh. Not that I am not YIM JIM anymore. I still am, only to a certain extend. Some times when we 'lower' our expectation a wee bit, we may find many happy surprises that pop up along the way. There will not be any perfect linings or perfect renovation maybe. It's just about measuring our expectation. Surely there were things that we thought can do more SWEE SWEE in our reno but we know it's a matter of give and take. Maybe it's because we have been quite steady with our contractor, so till date I think he has been very compromising. Anything, we voice out...he will have it fit. No two way about it.

I move on to another scenario which my friend relay to me. Couple A bought brand new luxury car. Drove as per normal. Did not particularly slow down on humps or did not particularly take extra care on car. Car looked a little off after 6 mths of drive, but couple A remained happy. Enjoying each other's company when they are behind the wheels. Couple B bought ordinary Japanese car. Did not even tear off the plastic that were used to protect the car seats for new cars. Son scratched the car door accidentally. Couple B scolded son at the top of their voice and went on to confront each other for not teaching the son. Couple B were angry at son and each other. Where got happy?

So the moral of the story is QING CHAI a bit lor. Happiness still rules. Sorry if I sounded silly but my point is as long as the 'non-perfect' work is not so obvious or cause any hazardous issues in your daily life, then ok bah. But if it's any technical issues, then by all means bring up your case.

Yes, I know HB is not doing your carpentry work... looks like most carpenters have the same mindset... wrongly drill hole? Nevermind, drill again lor, nobody will see it, won't die lah... They don't seem to take pride of their handmade products... they also fail to realise these wrongly drill holes are a proof to their customers that they are just half-past-six, not well-trained to do this job.

Since Patrick gave you that promise, you should call him to express your unhappiness on the grey grout lines... let see what he says before you request for a refund.

To fix the grout lines, I can think of 2 ways, one, paint them black, two, dig out the cement & refill with black cement paste... 2nd way is tedious, but one forumer did so... he used penknife.

My suggestion to you is still, get them to fix the problems rather than ask for refund... the $$ you get back can never fix the eyesore you are going to face everyday in future.

My story on the refund from HB is not enjoyable at all bcos I gotten a fierce scolding from my bf for doing that... but my case was easier, I requested them to refund for a piece of job they did not do... unlike your case, it is a sloppy job.

Hi Honeygal, & for all peeps who wanted to move house, maybe you can give this contact a try if u want?

I got 25 boxes of stuff to move :jawdrop::sport-smiley-004: , plus including a lot of other fragile stuff, and they give me a quote at about roughly $200.00 which i tink its cheap. plus the movers is very professional and shifted my stuff from the old house very very fast. i forgot the co name liao. but here's the hp: 9009 5879. but i tink he needed advance notice of about 3 days, if i didn't rem wrongly.
