mrspiglet 2 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 (edited) I love my tilers too, think they r very pro people. Did wrong groutings colors for me, ask them to chge and still no black face! Must tell them the exact color of groutings u want, else by default they just do white! i hope the person on the other end of the phone isnt the carpenter. Apparently the carpenter boss was at my house AGAIN this evening to fix my MBR tv console, said ah soon scolded him again. ken_ee5775 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 By the way, how come your contractor only show 2D? How come not in 3D? It is bcos of this his price cheaper?
ivy 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 ken uncle ah soon can't even read english let alone use computer, so how to have 3D drawings?? haha
ken_ee5775 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 (edited) Hmmm....a lot of id out there provide 3D but they normally don't do it their own...either the id firm have their own internal drawer or they will source outside. Market price for one 3D view about $150 + 1 time changes...subsequent changes will be $10 per time. it is rather risky if there is no 3D view. Actually, it depends whether there is significant work needs to be done. If the scope is small, the risk is small, then probably 3D is no necessary. Although market rate is $150, any contractor will mark up. Heard other ID marked up to $500 in other topics in this forum. In my opinion, typical HDB flat reno will not need ID or 3D drawing. pinkpetter 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2009 For a good price... it's also nice to visualise things yourself and do some hands-on. Anyway we come up with the designs ourselves and Ah Soon just carries them out, according to what we want. AND in the case of my house there was a slight flaw in our kitchen thanks to our own design and he still helped us change our cabinet doors when we explained that we couldn't have it that way. Wasn't his fault at all but he changed it for us.
ivy 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2009 To add on, in my own opinion, if you were to compare the various 3Ds provided by the different IDs, they look more or less the same and alot of duplication. I've read in one of the thread in this forum that 2 owners end up with similar 3Ds, can't remember the name of the thread though. Thus if owner already have rough ideas, done research and have pictures of what they have in mind, it is pretty safe to do without 3D. of course as u highlighted, there is always some risk that what u expected might be different from the outcome. For those using uncle ah soon, I believe we are all prepared to go without the 3Ds and save the sum of money to do other works. Quite a number of ah soon's customers are willing to open house to let others view his workmanship. Thus that is the confidence level that they have in him. I've viewed 3 units done by him, the latest was a unit in Eunos which I visited last night. I won't say workmanship is the best, but it is good enough for me at the price that he quoted. Hope we did help you address your concern
Smallboy 0 Report post Posted April 4, 2009 (edited) Agreed with Ivy. I've been to three open houses as well. The willingness of others to allow us to view their house also reflect their confidence in Ah Soon. To me, what is important in a contractor is reliable, good workmanship and negotiable... We have also read about many other forumers negative feedback from IDs. The price difference between Ah Soon and ID is also quite substantial, imagine the few IDs initial quotation to me are all above 50k and Ah Soon quote is below 40k with more stuff. To correct myself, Ah Soon does give 3D "hand drawn" drawing.... See sample. Edited April 4, 2009 by Smallboy
