blue_diamond,

if you do see him, pls do remind him that the holland flat owners die die have to hand-over by Thursday.

For the kitchen cabinet, mine is split into 2 items: 1 for the carpentry, 1 for the solid surface.

The soft-closing is included as part of the carpentry, unless you choose blum

Hope this helps

Congrats to your moving in! Can feel the stress just by reading your blog.. The wallpaper issue must resolve, or else I believe you will always zoom in at that wall in the future..

Think everyone suffers some reno blues and fatigue during reno.. But working with Uncle can really get tiring.. I'm starting to feel tired chasing him to start work...

Looks like Uncle always leave some rectification undone everywhere.. Pretty worried now.. My home have very min. corrugated paper, in fact only for pathways in the house.. Only MBR and kitchen are more covered.. I'm even thinking of getting those boxes and cover myself...

upon reading all these, I called Jason and told him they die die have to cover up my place with corrugated paper. my homo tile plain white and any ciggie butt that falls on it will leave a brown mark. this I do not accept at all. also feed back to him to take good care of my parquet flooring as I am not re-doing and the sand and stones will cause an impression on the flooring if not covered well.

I am hoping to see that they really cover up. will go spot check tmr. had to resort to this...bobian.

(1)

Note that corrugated papers could be torn in the process of renovation.

I always bring a roll of masking tape to tape when I see holes in the corrugated papers.

(2)

I brought my vacuum cleaner there as well. When I got time, I will vacuum the saw dust and plaster bits up.

Big, hard plaster pieces can scratch floors. Pick them up when you see them during site visit :)

First of all, congrats to James and Wendy on their official move-in!

I hope your troubles will go away soon.

For those who are referred by Ah Soon to Alan, I do not think his quote is any cheap. Certain items he really lion open mouth lor!

First one to strike out.

Moreover, lately we are seeing more n more QC problem from Uncle's works - better eye on them closely!

Uncle told Ah How that he's implementing a fine system and they cannot smoke in the house. If they do and he catch them, they will pay $100 each time. I think the tilers don't care, for mine, they also continue to smoke but they only limit their cigarettes to the area where there are no tiles.

As for my unit, Uncle only brought 1 roll of corrugated paper to cover my floor. Luckily I went ahead to buy the commercial grade plastic sheet to cover my unit. If not, god knows what will happen to my floor !

hi growler, where did u buy the commercial grade plastic sheet ? I think i better buy too cos i am not doing tiling for my living room, kitchen and all the bedrooms....thanks

:)

I second this. A good contractor will provide it - it is their job to do so. Just insist for it.

Actually, your contractor should do it for you. I know that my 2nd lowest quote ID will do it for me.

I know that Uncle won't do it for me and I was right. He only used 1 roll of corrugated paper. Hardly managed to cover all the area. I had to use carton boxes, cardboards, newspapers, etc to cover the remaining area.

If you really want to buy the plastic sheets, the contact is in my blog and the place is @ Defu Lane 1.

wow... so many posts after my last one.... hopefully your reno will work out fine. Uncle also said he impose fine for those smoking.......... hiaz.... in the end, he also smoke what!

Yes.. take the advise of those posted here, insist they lay corrugated paper everywhere. Where your feet steps on. They didn't cover my bedrooms.

Uncle has sent people to clean up the stains but well, they just can't be removed lor.

I appreciate that he tried but well, they are still there. Just pretend it is part of my pattern. Mine is not a full beige or brown or white.. my homo tile has some patterns. Not too bad. hahaha.. trying to comfort myself. :)

Like what growler says, sign up with Ah Soon ONLY if you have time and energy to chase and project mgt. If not, very heartache. And if you are a super perfectionist, forget about signing with him too. It will be too emotionally draining.

For us, we are fine with Ah Soon but the little here and there (kept forgetting things) adds up to the frustrations along the journey of our reno too. We are glad we designed it ourselves, see it built before our very eyes........ and Uncle made our dream a reality. We lowered our expectations a bit here and there (which is reasonable) but somethings we can't stand, we call him to rectify and so far he has done so. But I just wish a little more time from him to project management (his workers)..... so less has to be rectified. Also from this forum, business has been soaring so he really got no time to project mgt.

i know the ID suppose to cover for us. In fact all the quotes that we have gotten have this item in the quotation. Some provide for free and some charge money.

The ID that we more or less will engage is providing for free.

But having said that, we went to this new DBSS flat in tampines during one of the visit to see workmanship and they only cover half the living room while the other half is exposed with sand, saw dust, nails and what-nots all over the place!!! we were quite shock!

so to save ourselves the heartpain and $$$ to change new tiles or parquet, we rather spend a bit of money now and go cover the hse ourselves. In fact, we will drag the ID along to cover with us, to demo to him how serious we are abt protecting the current tilings and wooden floors...hehe :D
