Hello,

Any recommendation on doing sound proof for acoustic piano at low cost? As my room is small, I afraid playing acoustic piano would be too loud and disturbing neighbour.

Heard that carpet will help, but not sure what kind of carpet helps most and where to buy.

seal the windows and door with foam filler to minimise sound leakage is your best friend. using carpets is not going to help as these are mainly preventing the reflection, refraction and absorb some frequencies of sound only, so you still have a whole multitude of frequencies to deal with

I remembered reading an article where someone actually built a 'floating' room within the room to minimise sound leakage.

The scale seems quite huge. Plus that room got 2 doors (main door and 2nd door into the 'floating room' and no windows.

He there, I am an acoustic engineer. First of all we need to know more about your problem. Where is piano room and the relationship of other rooms and neighbours. I have seen many home use piano rooms in the last 5 years so i think i have a good idea of your problem.

Depending on the set-up your neighbour below should be able to hear the noise you are making. As for your neighbours from the window not to worry about that if you are in HDB or Condo.

The real question is what do you have in the room is it empty of have objects in?

You may have a reverberation problem so treating one of the rooms with a foam is a good idea.

A good solution would be to use a products called NoiseBlock IsoMat g10 for your floor, and for one wall NoiseBlock 3d foam.
