Qns On Drilling Walls, Drill Bit Size And That Plastic Screw Holder

Hi all,

Got a question on drilling wall. Usually pple will drill, then hammer a plastic thingy into the wall (to hold the screw more securely), then finally screw in.

1) what is the size of the drill bit to use for drilling?

2) what's the official name of that plastic screw holder thingy.

3) I've seen slightly different designs, different colour (red, green) of that plastic holder. Are there different in purpose, and size?

1) The size of the drill bit will depend on the screw you will be using. Remember to use the right drill bit depending on the type of wall material you are drilling into (see point 3).

2) Should be a wall plug.

3) Different diameters to accept different screw size. Wall plugs are also differentiated between those designed to be used in solid walls (concrete, brick, mortar etc) and hollow walls (plasterboard, plywood, gypsum etc). Got to use the right type to ensure proper securing.

I don't really like the generic red/green types. Not as well designed as those from Volkmar etc. that you can get easily from either Self-fix or Homefix.

I think you mean wall plug or rawl plug. Maybe this link could help you

If u are refering to those about the size of 1" x dia 8mm, availiable in wood, nylon - white opaque, red and dark green etc, that is 'jute'

Another optiion is the nylong plug that is normally use in hanging lighter object like the wall suspension kitchen cabinet.

For false wall partition, u got to use 'butterfly' nylon plug - about $1.20/pc. This u need to buy the applicator which is about $15/-, something like the one for riveting.
