possible...cos my parents and inlaw also no hood..but they dun have top cabinet also....must remember to close bedroom doors when cooking...and close the kitchen door too....when the fumes dispersed..then open the kitchen door ba..

I attached a piece of stainless steel on top to replace the hood.

Cost me $150 only. Maybe you can consider that also. =)

I also thought of that, but didn't know the pricing.

However, Cuizino hood, the lowest end I am getting at $210. The price difference is not much.

Any other opinions?

think might as well save the $210 cos it aint gonna do much for you except consume electricity.

That's true, but really I can't get any oher alternative.

Does this means, hood is MUST? If not for the its real usage, but for the protection of cabinet laminates above.

if the suction is bad, dun think it can protect any of the top cabinet. might as well do without the hood cos u gonna clean the top cabinets anyway. Either get a better hood....or no hood no top cabinet.

I thought atleast it can protect the cabinets from heat!

mmm you have an ID ah.. you should ask him. Maybe you can put a glass? If your purpose is to protect it from heat then stainless steel is not a good option.

But if you really don't cook much then dun bother ba.

Maybe aluminium foil under the cabinet? but use what to stick? Wont it look ugly?

Don't try aluminium foil. My mom did. It's basically useless. Still oily and everything.

my current house 5 room bought in 2001, with hood, at first wife still got use

i even bought 1 or 2 times (cant remember exact), the replacement filter (that absorb the smoke)

but dunno since when , my wife did not use the hood liao ( note : average cooking = 4 times per week )

i only realised that 1 night when i heard something like plastic bag flying sound in the kitchen, so when to take a look, then i found out it was actually the aluminium foil sound ( wind blowing at that time)

and the aluminum foil was wrapped onto the hood filter

so i ask my wife why wrapped like that, she replied since no use liao and everytime got cook, the filter will get oily ... and eventually after a long time , the oil accumulated in the filter will dripped out

so aluminium foil is to prevent oily smoke get into the filter

So the cooker hood is really not very useful? I was also cotemplating if I should install one. I guess the only purpose is asthetic view as the pratical part is not really useful to absorb the oil and stuff as seen from most of my other relatives and friend's house.

Opinions anyone?

Personally, I think one should either get the restaurant type of fumes n oil suction hood, or don't bother buying one for household use. I grew up seeing my mom rarely turn the hood on, as she seldom cook oily stuff n she really keep her kitchen clean. So I am not going to use a hood either.
