Recommended Posts

Dear all,

Can you help provide some advice or tips on things to look out for before the handover and final payment to ID?

Thanks!

Looking for good contractors? Click here for your request

basic:

1) hollow tiles.

2) paint job touch up ok?

3) carpentry, sharp corners? any gaps need to silicon sealed?

4) Electrical work, turn it ON, no tripping, no burning smell, no fire

5) plumbing works, no leaking water.

6) Locks (window, door), ok? sliding ok? lock can open close properly?

mm I'd also check

the kitchen top and all carpentary for scratches...

the base of my doors, whether or not they were done by the contractor...

the tiles near and around fixtures (pipes, walls) got crack or not...

Remember to ask for the guarantee card for things like aircon, etc.

Just wondering what is the market pratice for renovation guarantee.

Anybody can share?

Thanks everyone for your inputs. Will write them all down on a list. :)

How do you check the laminate flooring and glass works (e.g. glass panels, doors etc)?

Wifur, I'm not too sure of the std practice but I do know that my ID company offers 5 years guarantee for the renovation works.

check your exterior walls too.

My friend has a unit that has a crack on the exterior and when it rained, water seeped thru. Now he waited for 2 months but still no reply from HDB to get it fixed sigh.

for me, after getting my house, I saw some hairline cracks on the outside leading to a major crack inside the house via the window ledge. Going to call HDB to rectify this.

Hi cloudy, I kenna exactly the same problem! Sighz... my ID discovered it one day when it rained cats and dogs and found a patch of water on my newly installed floor laminates!!! GASP*** :jawdrop:

So I got my hb to contact the HDB officer immediately and he said matters outside of the flat belonged to the jurisdiction of the town council. He also said the same thing about the timing, had to wait for 2 months and we were simply appalled cos rainy season coming soon....

The next week however, we saw a gondola running along the block on the side of the wall that had cracked...they must have patched the crack cos I didn't get any leakage problem afterwards...

If they are taking so long, better call your HDB officer to check again... tell them rainy season here already!!
