Bought A 100v Lamp From Tokyo

Recommended Posts

Good Afternoon,

Hi people, been reading this forum for few weeks and must say it has good lobangs and reviews ...

I'd jus bought a dining lamp from Tokyo and it s only 100 V. After surfing some websites, understand that I

need a transformer to convert it to 230V in order to use in Sg. Some questions I'd like to ask the experts

here:

Can it be done by purchasing a transformer? Which type and how much does it cost roughly?

Thanks and regards,

Pearljam

yes japan is 100v, go to simlim tower or simlim square 2nd floor, there are shops that sells a range of transformer.

All these transformer is wattage rated, if you know your wattage ...you shd be able to find a suitable one. recently i bought a 2000w super duper heavy transformer for converting 230 to 110 for my kegerator.

Price could range from a few dollars to hundreds, usually driven by the wattage. One thing you need to tell the shop is that you need 100V, some of these transformer are for US (which is 110V) and not the 100V you need.

Hope this helps.

Best Denki also got sell but Sim Lim Tower basement or lvl 3 still much cheaper lor.

Most are 110V but usually can tolerate 10% tolerance. For lamp shd be ok, but not for those who using some high tech Tesla Coil defence system.

Hi there... thanks for the info.

As the lamp I bought was a dining lamp and I had to shift the position of the exisitng power source,

was told that I do not need a transformer and all I had to do is get a bulb that s suitable for use in sg

ie 230V. Now I m confused.

Pls advise.

Thanks,

pearljam

Technically is correct, as long as the holder is the same.. and there is no ELECTRONIC control like dimmer.. by simply changing the bulb, and change the plug (or use adaptor) will work.

But then again.. caveat emptor hor.

Not sure if you remember that in the old days, you can just buy a bulb socket holder and it connects direct to the AC (230V). All you need to do is install the light bulb and they have one of those string attached to it that you can on/off the light.

The concept and principle is similar. If your light is of such design and replacing the bulb holder or bulb and then cut away the power plug to a 2 or 3 pin and connect direct to the 230V, it should work.

If you have a dimmer along the way to regulate your current, you may need to take a look at it just to be sure, you don't burn it out by just changing what i have just mentioned here.

Especially electrical stuff, just be very careful. Thanks
