Questions On Attic, Bca Approval Needed? Type Of Slab?

Recommended Posts

I repost this from another thread, hope professional could give insights, thanks!

Hi friends,

Just viewed an old 2 storey terrace house with attic newly installed. roof height remains the same. Just that the attic floor(slab) is wood instead of concrete. so when you walk about, can hear 'bom bom bom' sound. The roof structure is wood (timber i think).

the owner says did not get bca approval as no extension or raising of roof. therefore, my question is, how safe is this attic? What is the maximum load it can carry? without BCA approval, who is there to ensure safety level is met, will the floor collapse towards the second storey?

Is this norm?

Thanks!

My personal opinion is that if u are asking such questions, then this house is not meant for you. Such houses are "as it where is", and no one can give u added assurance.

Even a Volvo in the hands of an Ah Beng with a SYT beside will not be safe.

ahbeng driving volvo vs ah beng driving geely, the chances of survival in accident is greater for volvo.
