who is thrifty abt ur utility usage??

Contrary to popular belief, putting electrical applicances on standby mode actually is one of the culprit for energy consumption/wastage. Read in a recent newspaper article that it can add abt 10-15% to your monthly electrical bills. So it pays to switch off the power completely when not in use.

As for me, will be using only energy saving lights bulbs (no no to incandescent bulbs) for my coming house.

Will not be installing air-con as I am a bit allergic to air-con, so will save quite a bit.

No dryers for me too as they are "one of the big time electricity suckers". Anyway perferred clothes to be hanged dry naturally as clothes dried in dryers tend to have one kind of smell.

Switch off my wireless router when not in use as the plug/console can get pretty hot, think that is power wastage also.

Switch off lights when not in use for a while, but not to the extend of switching them on and off when moving from room to room.

But some things such as water heater, iron, oven, electric kettle etc that users heater cannot be avoided, just have to be more prudent when using them.

u are not the only one. we "stay" in for at most one week nia with little use of aircon and we only switch on one flourscent light when watching tv.

and our bill adds up to $60plus!

we switched everything off everytime we leave the place lei..

Y not cal n chk with the utilities company? Is ur's resale? Mayb they're still using the average of past consumption? If new flat, even more got something wrong le.

My first utilities bill was $70 but we have not even moved in or started reno yet. Hubby called s'pore power and they said man will come down and checked. In our next bill, we found that we don't need to pay as it had been subtracted from the amount they have overcharged us. The amount overcharged is enough to pay for at least 2 months.

Me and hubby don't use much aircon at home. We prefer the fan though we do have aircon just for the really hot days. Even with the fans or lights, we will switch them off if we are going to leave the room for some time maybe to bathe or something.

At night, we make it a point to switch off our electric kettle. Juz attended a fire safety talk in my school. The fire safety officer said its better not to put any electrical appliances like tv on standby mode as they consume extra electricity and also the number 1 cause of fire incidents at home.

I also charged my laptop at work so even if I need to use it at home I won't use more electricity. We also have no dryer. Only depend on weather conditions to dry our clothes.

well, just an update... this months bill was ok... it was based on the meter reading...

will monitor my situation for another two months then see how it goes!

I manage to keep my utility bill below $60 by skinching on the air-con usage. It does work for me.

BTW, keep track of ur electricity n water meter reading to ensure tat u r not over-charged for ur utility.

but i expect it to shoot up a lot this mth coz i was away on holiday and one of the spray hose pipes burst thus water was pouring nonstop for almost a week before it was discovered SIGHS -_-

Wow all of u r rather cheap(bills). Envy. My hubby have to pay over $200 per month!! Haiz
