Advice On Buying A Low Level Em Needed

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I am new to the forum and would like to seek advise from you guys.

Hubs and me just sold off our 3 room flat in the West and we want to upgrade to a bigger flat. We've been looking around some EMs and there's this unit that sorta somewhat is to our budget.

The only problem is that its on the 2nd floor. Having been staying on the 10th floor for the past 10 years where its bright and breezy, hubs and me don't know if we can adapt. Hubs is concerned that being on the lower floor, the kitchen window area is too near the trash collection area at the foot of the block and that would pose unpleasant smells and pests eg. cockroaches etc into the flat.

Anyone staying on lower floors that can give us some sound advice?

~Decisions! Decisions!~

2nd floor meaning the lowest unit already right? bound to get pest de.

imagine you're a roach or ant looking for food. 2nd floor unit is easy to climb up ma,soft target. :sport-smiley-004:

for instance,my old place was on a 4th. everytime the pestkillers come and spray. bunch of roaches rush through my old and faulty binchute. so we keep the chute area handly with pesticides. :jawdrop:

my frd's unit was on the 7th. hardly any roaches but ants yeah(proves ants are really hardworking! ). so chances sure get higher when you are lower.

It might be pretty hard for you to adapt to a 2nd floor unit, the smell, the pest, the noise...

I lived on the 7th floor for 10 yrs before moving to a 2nd floor unit. I lived there for a year before I went overseas. Every weekend, when the cleaners drove their van to pick up the trash bin during noon, that was the most unpleasant hour of the day, very strong smell. Everytime I had to shut the kitchen & utility windows to keep the smell from entering my house.

Pest was very common too. No matter how clean you maintain the house, no way you can stop croach or ant from coming to your unit. If the rats in the ground floor aren't too fat, they might even climb the walls up :jawdrop:

I find it hard to live in a low floor HDB unit in Sgp, but landed property is ok leh. Had lived in a townhouse for 2 years in overseas, the feeling was good :P

Guest our-home

We stayed in a 2nd floor unit for 6 years - our first home then.

Next block was a Community Centre with basketball court. Had to get used to the noise during game time, taekwondo practices, CC celebrations, etc.

Opposite side - a small field.

Noise level depends on your block's location too, I guess.

Thing I didn't like most about living on the 2nd floor then was not just the pests (eg cockroaches/mosquitoes, etc) but when they fog the dustbin chutes. Although we closed the windows, our unit still get fogged up too - it was very windy there.
