Recess Area Under Window - How To Utilise

Recommended Posts

My house has got recessed area under the window. Not too much deep, about 20-24 cm (uneven :( ).

I thought to have it boxed with shelves, but not enough depth to fully utilize.

Don't want the box to protrude out.

Anyone has done anything better?

My ex-neighbour made shelves with sliding door. The doors have art designs so it looks like a deco.

This way the door or the handle will not be protruding out. They keep things shoes, slippers. Actually u can keep anything that can fit in that place. Always good to have extra hidden storage places.

Or you can install open shelves. For the depth of 20-24cm, should be sufficient to use as bookshelves or even display shelves.

True. Because the quotes I received so far very exp. almost $400 per window.

All hv suggested to box up the area with doors and shelves.

Is it really needed to box up the area? Can't it be done by only putting the shelves and door?

My mom actually DIY open shelves for some of the recess area at her place. She mainly used them as display shelving.
