etoh77 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2010 I think it is quite common in the market that delivering the wrong item for furniture. Can you imagine, a simply study table also can be wrong in colour and design, it is totally not the one that I have ordered just 5days ago. Never take their business /job seriouly. Reading all types of comments over in this forum, there's still have rooms for improvement in customer service and satisfaction in this trade. just my 2 cents, i dun think its because they dun take the business/job seriously. Probably after they took your order, they try their luck to use their existing stocks (maybe showroom units or rejected or defective items) and then pretend to send wrongly. and hopefully it will pass it off or that the buyer will reluctantly accept. this will help them to get rid of these items which else will be stuck with them. integrity/credibility issue. Fedup99 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2011 (edited) I have the same problem as Micdavey. My GERMAN leather sofa from Species is peeling after only 1.5yo. It started having hair line crack abt 1 year after we bought it. Now its so cracked that I felt so heartache paying $3K for it. I have spoke to a few other furniture shops and all says that real leather will crack over time but DEFINITELY will not peel. That's the case for my previous set of sofa. It cracked after we use it for about 6-7years but never did I see it peeling off. I have emailed them the condition of the sofa and hope that I can resolve this issue with them soon. I encountered exactly the same problem, german leather L-shape sofa + coffee table, around $3.6K (very X, now only i realised), peeling off after less than 2yrs. I called the service centre, Ms Ching, kept pestering them to get free upholstery. Finally i got it but after paying a few hundreds for transportation and labour cost (couldn't out talk the boss, sigh!). The process took 2 months of dingdonging on cost, collection & delivery dates and many more phone calls to press for delivery, very painful. Anyway, it was delivered few days ago, all done up brand new with thicker material (according to the boss it is of better quality, i wish i can trust him again...). Hopefully, it can last for at least 3 yrs or if i'm lucky, may be 5 yrs .... I don't want to have anything to do with them anymore. Species is a definite a NO, NO. klipp-klapp 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2011 I too have the same peeling problem for my german leather sofa from Species after about 1.5 yrs...And for about half a year, I was just covering the sofa with blanket from IKEA cos it was such a waste to replace the sofa in less than 2 years. Like fussie, I have heard from friends that real leather will only crack but not peel... was quite upset as my husband & I have specifically asked the saleslady if the german leather is genuine leather and the answer was yes. I had given positive reviews about Species in my reno blog before for their friendly sales services and prompt delivery... but now I feel quite cheated.. Haiz. But, at least it is good to learn that some of you managed to get the re-upholstery done at a good deal.... so now besides being resigned to the shedding sofa until having saved up for a new one .. I can try to get in touch with them ....
kalimantan 6 Report post Posted January 23, 2011 i am no expert in leather product. I bought full leather sofa (3+2) from castila few years back for 7k and it has no problems till now. My kids like to jump on it and still got no problems. Only each year, i pay specialist cleaner to clean up for about $250 removing stains. However their advice is to clean sofa for about 2-3 times per year which i may consider getting a package. Whenever i've guests to my place (including children), they sit on it and refuse to move out of the sofa which is highly comfortable. BTW if there are pen-marks, etc on leather, it CANNOT be removed (except red-o color - i've not tried it yet). If it can be removed, then it is not leather. Anyway, i read these threads and surprised leather products cost less than 3k, etc. Perhaps i wish to point out that leather goods cannot be that cheap. My style is : get a reliable or premium retailer and pay for it and use it for at least 10 years.
husky23 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2011 I have the same peeling problem after the so-called genuine full leather sofa is about 16 months. Called the service hotline, Ms Ching asked for photos and I sent them accordingly. Afterward, she said to fix this issue, they are willing to redo the upholstery for between $560 - 1000. I told her this is not acceptable as leather doesn't crack so I know that this is not genuine leather and they have to rectify the issue. A guy named Leslie called me the next day and indirectly said that because we never cleaned the sofa properly (i.e. using leather cleaning solution every 2-3 mths), this peeling/cracking can happen. I told him leather can crack, but not peeling off like what happened to mine. After a few rounds of phone calls, he offered to redo the upholstery for $280, which according to him only to cover the transport cost to send to/from their factory in Malaysia. Again, I told him this is not acceptable and since we are not going anywhere with the arguments, I'd lodge a complaint to CASE. I file a complaint online through CASE website and an officer (Erin) called me to explain the procedures, what options I have, ask whether it's written somewhere or any evidence that list this sofa is a genuine full leather. Since I don't have any written evidence, she said this can be difficult depends on the shop. She advised me to talk to Leslie's superior first and tried to settle this problem with him. If we encounter dead end or the shop is making it difficult for me to speak to the management, I should visit CASE office and they will issue an official letter. With this letter, CASE will take my complaint and help to achieve an agreement acceptable to both parties. This may take another 1-2 months This is really distressing. We definitely blacklist Species, never ever buy anything from them no matter how attractive the offer is.
Om999 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2011 Leather dries out, and it does peel and flake. you need to keep leather moisturised - it is skin after all. Do you polish your leather boots? this adds a soft wax, and keeps the leather soft, flexible and waterproof. It also stops the layer of colour from flaking off. there are many products out there, and they don't cost too much. My lounge is already flaking badly, so I just give it a hit with boot polish/dubin every so often. Infact , I purchased a whole leather living room set from Lorenza on 2010.What i have is a leather reclining sofa , 3 and 2 seaters leather sofa , all the same brand & material which cost me about $5800. We have had no problems until this past week. Our furniture is PEELING, yes peeling. The salesman assured me that it was 100% leather wherever our bodies touched. I wasn't aware that leather was supposed to PEEL, it just flakes off. It looks horrible and it's only 9 months old. I then called the Lorenza Store where I purchased the furniture and asked to speak to the manager, they asked why and I explained my problem to them. They then said that I would have to let a customer service person know and they would take care of my problem. Few weeks later , they sent a service man over to see.He is friendly and very insightful. He said that my PAINT was PEELING off of my leather. I wasn't aware that leather was painted. When I showed him other pieces of leather furniture that I own that haven't ever peeled (but show wear) he let me know that furniture isn't made the same way it used to be. He said that in the past things had better quality and held up better. At the end , i was charges about $1500 for reupholstery the sofa. To be honest , i think $280 is a very reasonable charges for reupholstery. Nowadays , product not like 10 years ago lo...Last time television 10-15 years then need to change one.Now 3 years only must prepare a new one.
hotstuff 0 Report post Posted March 10, 2011 For my undestanding from my sofa maker, leather is not painted...but surface was 'grind' to make it smooth and layer of 'cant remember what' was stick on top of the leather. They also told me that climate in Singapore are not actually good to use leather as humidity is always high, so moisture are trap within the leather itself. It will be even worst if the leather sofa place is at direct sunlight. The only prevention is apply leather care product every 2-3months. After all hearing all these mentioned by my sofa maker, I passed on the thinking of using leather for mu sofa....lazy to do all those waxing and stuffs....hahaha. Cheers!
