Is It Normal To Be Charged For Dismantle Cost Of Unwanted Wardrobe?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, newbie here. I was really shocked when my contractor put down $500 dismantle cost to remove 3 unwanted wardrobes. When i asked him, he said because they need to drive all the way to Jurong to dump the unwanted wood pieces etc etc.

Have you ever heard of this dismantle cost?

Resident can dispose unwanted items at the bin collection centre but contactor cannot.

Arrangement of haulage per lorry is $350/-, thus dismantling the 3 nos of BIW is only $50/- each, the cost of paying labour only.

Disposing of junk at any incinerator needs prior application, furnishing particulars and somtimes charges impose for exceeding the limited weights of disposal and a needs of time to be in the quene.

Contractor is also not allowed to bring back any junk from outside jobs back to their factory if it is under HDB even though the tenant had to pay a set up amount of almost $400/- per month for centralised disposal.

Despite that lengthly explanation, I still think that $500 is too much for simply dismantling. Malaysian workers are not even that highly paid. Normally IDs will have already included a haulage fee somewhere.

We were charged:

- labour to remove kitchen cabinet $200

- dismantle 7.5ft wardrobe $80

- dismantle 6ft wardrobe $80

- chemical wash, haulage & debris removal $1300

There are other items removed and charged that I've not listed here.

I think, all these labour costs very subjective - depends on the contractor to add/substract here and there.

Hey there,

Do you know if I can get anyone to just dismantle one wardrobe? I need to dismantle the wardrobe pretty urgently. Appreciate any help and reference.

For Lissy,

Call the town council that you have one wardrobe to be collected (as they will normally remove up to 3 bulky items for free) and they can arrange someone to collect. But of course they will tell you to place the item outside your unit. When the foreign workers come, show them the wardrobe. If helpful ones will dismantle for you but some might want 'coffee money' then you negotiate from there. Make sure you have the tools ready.

For Ikitty,

Same steps but be prepared to pay about $150.

No dismantle and removal fees from my ID :dancingqueen:

I paid >$700 to Ho Bee for all this work... your ID is very good... or the cost is already hidden somewhere in your reno package liao

Read thru your blog during CNY... like the green tiles in your kitchen & toilet... I like green color... the first time I came across this Inovar laminated flooring co... how do you find their products compare to other famous brand like Supreme & Kronotex?

BTW, Basic Image doesn't seem to be a famous or popular ID firm in this forum... is your ID recommended by friends? The workmanship looks good from your pic.
