Laminate Floor Recommendation?

Which is better, Laminate / Timber flooring / Parquet? Will there be hollow or noise when walk on the planks?

They all have their pros & cons. Do a search on this forum for related articles.

I have laminated flooring in my bedrooms. Initially, yes, there will be hollow feel & "cracking" noise when walking on it. But after a week or so, when the flooring settles down, you will feel less of all these. 3 mths later, you probably will get used to it

All had their own advantage and dis-advantage. To cut it short,

1) Laminated - resistant to scratches but water resistant is poor (keep away from water is the best). Can overlay. Quite Hollow.. even if the rubber matt is placed. Not for long term, maybe 5-10 years is only

2) Timber Flooring - resilient, no floating feel. Can sand and polished but depend. And is lastable

3) Parquet - quite good water resistant but poor scratch resistant, had to maintainence. Not hollow And is lastable. Can Overlay

I learn from many contractors and ID, they somehow tell me like that.. haha. Corrected me if I am wrong

Timber flooring & Parquet flooring is actually same bear the characteristics.... Bcs both r natural wood...

Parquet is a contractor terms in local market, whereby timber flooring is the correct naming in 'Ang Moh'! kekeke

'Parquet flooring' usually comes in short strips (only teak), 'timber flooring' usually comes in planks, bigger strips (many varieties, can do wood staining)...

The diff is tad the origins of the wood... Different type of wood (maple, nyatoh, teak, chengal etc) have diff textures n density...

U're right! But comes to water resistance, timber is better... Bcs (parquet) shorter strips got more gaps... With gd maintainence, timber can last very long...

Can check wf anyone of you that do you know as for laminate, do the contractor uses glue to stick the laminate onto the ground?

My contractor told me they only place a rubber material underneath to prevent noise and will try compress the laminate together to force them onto ground. He said if use glue will cause the laminate to raise up when weather get hots....is it true?

Using glue to stick the laminate onto the ground is old method & outdated liao... New technology is the click-on type.

Yes, a layer of rubber material can be used to prevent noise, but it is optional... I didn't use that... After living in my flat for nearly a yr, the noise from my laminated flooring is almost unnoticeable.

There are gaps in-between laminates, when weather gets hot, they will expand sideway… should not raise up like what you said.

Laminate Flooring is a compressed wood, using clicking system. Only solid wood species are using glue on methods. In the market, there are several brands like Pergo, Kronotex, Tarkett, Supreme, Bear bear, Power Deco and many. Most of them are so-called european products not that suitable for local weather. Expansion and contraction is one of the important issue when using laminate. The local market is still led by Supreme (local brand). They have various ranges of laminate depends on your budget. Both laminate Flooring and solid wood flooring have their pros and cons but usually if you do not mind paying more, solid wood is the preference to compressed wood Beside solid wood flooring allow you to do refurbishment (restoration by grinding the surface), which can be seen as a better long term investment.

If you are considering wood (e.g. parquet) flooring for your house, I can provide recommendation which you can save some money by working directly with the wood flooring specialist (reduce middle man markup).

It has been some time now since you ave installed Vohringer laminate floor , can you tell me how does it look now?

How do you clean it? does it scrach easy?

Do you think this was a good choice for laminate floor ?

I agree that most european/chinese floorboard are not not suitable for sg weather. Tropical hardwood laminate are offered by supreme and inovar only in the market...and after having used both brands, i must say INOVAR outperform Supreme by leaps and bounds....but maybe i had a bad experience with Supreme b4 where the salesman cheated me and sold me their chinese range at malaysian range price...haiz....
