pinkpetter 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 Pet: Sorry abit blurr, quite stress this few days. Christmas moss is very good for fries to hide. Angel: I prefer plants that are easy to maintain. So usually I go for moss or other floating plants. If you like to have forested landscape, you will need CO2 supplementation and fertilization. I find it very troublesome. What I do usually is to spread the moss on driftwoods or you can put on mesh vertically for background. By the way, you are talking about aquatic plants right? hehe yes we are... ah Pet, u wanna keep fish ? Not for the time being because we might need to do a little more additions to the house. Might have some at my bf's house if he comes back for good though Thanks preciousjam and pet, think I'll get both the corrugated cardboard (for the floors) and the plastic for the beds. Thanks again Welcome
pinkpetter 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 YAY the plumber came and let me sign the documents! Now I can really look forward to all the documents being submitted and the purchase processed... That aside... Something very unhappy happened last night. My dad suggested to hack the wall between the kitchen and the access balcony. Actually Uncle Soon suggested it but I never liked the the idea... I flatly refused my dad... and I did it kinda meanly. I think I was too stressed last night having studied for 10 hours straight and was too tired for such talks. But can you imagine hacking that wall? it'll mean that the moment you step into the house you can see straight into the kitchen, the common toilet and all the laundry hanging there... Moreover the main door will be next to the rubbish chute!! sigh and the two old people were a bit upset. but aesthetically it's really... *sigh*
familyof4 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 hmm...i agree with u. after seeing that it'll "over-expose" your kitchen, I think your disgreement to hack that wall is right.

Angel81 1 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 OH OH ya I think I had Christmas moss. Anyway Gaku, it's Angel who wants some recommendations on plants.. any big nice ones for the background? Hehe, thanks for asking on my behalf! Now still wondering wat types of plants to use. I tink we have either Java or Christmas moss too! Our's planted on a coconut shell tingy, and is still alive. haha Angel: I prefer plants that are easy to maintain. So usually I go for moss or other floating plants. Yupz, talking abt aquatic plants. hehehe.. We did buy those CO2 pills and put one/two tablets in about once a wk when we still had those taller plants. Now left one moss, one plant (duno wat it's called) and afew mini nanas. Kinda like to have different heights of plants to make the tank look more interesting and for the fishes to play around. But agree with you, gota find plants that are easy to maintain. Any tall plants that are easy to maintain? YAY the plumber came and let me sign the documents! U'll soon be able to start reno for ur recess area. No sad, no sad. I'm sure after u explain to them the reasons why u refused, they'll understand and agree to ur reasoning. pinkpetter 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 hmm...i agree with u. after seeing that it'll "over-expose" your kitchen, I think your disgreement to hack that wall is right. ... ya.. it'll look awful.. and I cannot imagine keeping the kitchen 100% neat and clean all the time.. can die. poor pinkpetter, I too love the idea of having a wall between the kitchen and access balcony. Are your folks still thinking of doing a minor reno?? Thought you just completed your reno in Dec 08?? It's all HDB's fault. My mom always wanted to buy the recess area but we were not allowed to buy when we were buying the unit. And after the purchase of the unit was complete we were so busy with reno, no one had the time to deal with the stupid recess. So it was after we moved in then we tot about the recess and started this ultra long process of getting it... Congrates congrates! U'll soon be able to start reno for ur recess area. No sad, no sad. I'm sure after u explain to them the reasons why u refused, they'll understand and agree to ur reasoning. Thank you... I hope so. I'll try to explain to them next week when I have more time. Meanwhile I let them sit on it and think about it themselves. Maybe they will realise the same. Oddly, my mom usually has a pretty good sense about such things... didn't realise she was so determined about the wall going away.

Well, to have a spacious & airy kitchen and maybe with an island is lots of women's ideal kitchen. Maybe tat's what ur mom was thinking about and didn't realize that she'll need to keep the kitchen neat all the time?

You're so right about a spacious and airy kitchen... she wanted to hack all the walls except the bedroom and toilet ones... haiz... sigh If her ultimate wish comes true... and HDB upgrades us and gives us a service balcony or some room at the back (which I will turn into a washing area for her) then I would consider hacking that corridor wall. Pinkpetter... sorry was reading your post and looking at your floorplan. The wall you mom want to hack is it a concrete wall?? Cause I see the floorplan its mark in black. pinkpetter 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2009 You are right. Not all concrete walls and beams are not hackable.. it depends on the layout of your entire block, which floor you're on, etc. ... if you're on the 2nd floor and you want to hack the concrete walls (the basic structure), it'll be much much harder to get your permit approve as compared to the fella on the top floor... since no one depends on the top floor guy. As such... HDB layout plans always have the walls forming the outside of the house in bold... but it's still possible that it can be hacked... familyof4 got hers done. And when I was viewing flats I saw a few also. however... it's still a maybe.

Moreover the main door will be next to the rubbish chute!! sigh and the two old people were a bit upset. but aesthetically it's really... *sigh* Hi, initially I also considered hacking a doorway to the kitchen from the recess area but dropped the idea as I may have to install a door which I wouldnt want to. Another reason for dropping the idea was because the permit would take longer than usual to be approved by HDB and we could not wait. We only have less than 3 weeks to get the flat ready. I also thought of saving cost and wanted to do only grilles for recess area but the rain would definitely get into the kitchen (if I were to hack a doorway at the recess area). I would have to get a fire rated door for the new doorway to the kitchen if I choose not to shift my main door after doing windows and grilles. So in the end, we just shifted out the main door after doing windows and grilles. Saw a few units that hack the recess area wall and the kitchen is bigger but I felt it looks abit funny as people standing outside the gate can see right thru the unit and not much privacy unless one keeps the main door closed at all times. plus, looking at your floorplan...I do agree that it looks abit weird for the maindoor to be next to the rubbish chute.
