sleepingdog 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2008 Anyone have the tel for window cool? Saw in another post, Tel: 6744 6988. Actually, unless your flat faces the sun directly all the time, no need for the more expensive solar film. Normal tinted film should be good enough for home use. Usually solar film (like 3M) is used for commercial buildings where it's fully air-con and the windows can't be opened, and so they want to keep out the heat to conserve air-con cooling. knv 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2008 Hi all, i'm going for the minimal/zen look for my room so thinking of doing without curtains/blinds, however i do want my privacy, so i'm wondering how tinted can these films go? Do they have ones which i can see outside clearly yet those from outside can't see in?
owm 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2008 The best solution I know of is 'smart film' by Unioptix Sdn Bhd. In short, it is an opto-electric film that is opaque all the time but at a press of a button, it becomes transparent. Hence, one will use this film in place of solar window films, tinted films and even curtains/blinds etc. A detailed description of it is here. Bad news is that it is highly expensive. I know of only 1 flat in Singapore that has installed it. His Tiong Bahru apartment was featured in the September issue of Home & Decor Singapore. There is a local dealer but I cannot recall the name and the service was bad when I inquired about it few months back. I'm thinking just normal tinted film where one side is more translucent than the other
owm 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2008 Problem is when it is at night and the lights are on, people outside will be able to see in. Depending on the level of tint on the film, they might see shadows at most but there will not be 100% privacy. I think there are some guidelines to the colour of tint that is approved and the highest tint level I have seen is around 70 odd percent only. See if other experts can chime in here and help you further. WOW. that is some high tech stuff! That's surely way out of my budget!! hihihi 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2008 higher tint ones will appear like a mirror surface at night. Day time looks ok though. The higher the tint, the more mirror-like it will be, essentially behaving like one-way mirror. So some pple blur blur thought that pple cannot see in, and start squeezing pimples and change clothes. Just know that pple can still see in, and take necessary precaution will do.
