Buying Lights For False Ceiling, L-box... Setting Timer...

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I need to buy lights for my new house and well I am still quite lost even after reading through some of the lightings thread :(

I read few threads on lightings and is now very confused with the many lighting terms like electric ballast, energy saving bulbs, the different watts bulbs, T5, T8 :bangwall:

Ok, Basically I need to buy the lights on my Lbox for cove lighting. So I need to buy?

- Fluorscent lights? Either T5 or T8 huh?

As for energy saving, Is T5 more recommended? So does it comes with different tones like warm white, white and yellow etc?

And also it comes with different length also right?

I think i dun need to buy a holder for this?

Then I need to buy lights for my false ceiling? So I need to buy

- A downlight? Does this include the holder of the bulb plus the bulb itself?

so the bulb itself i need to choose a energy saving one?

So does it comes with different tones like warm white, white and yellow etc?

And for some of the lights on my false ceiling, i need to set timer to make it ON from 7pm to 12mn automatically... so what else do i need to do except buying the timer switch thingy?

Would really appreciate your help to educate me on this...

Thanks in advance...

- Fluorscent lights? Either T5 or T8 huh? Either one will do.

As for energy saving, Is T5 more recommended? So does it comes with different tones like warm white, white and yellow etc? :unsure:I am using T5 with electronic ballast. Electronic emit lesser heat than coil ballast. Osram color code 830 is the best. Not very yellowish..goes very easy on your eyes..

And also it comes with different length also right? comes in 2ft, 3 ,ft, 4ft.. Depend on your false ceiling length and you chose the combination

I think i dun need to buy a holder for this? You will definitely need a holder...

Then I need to buy lights for my false ceiling? So I need to buy

- A downlight? Does this include the holder of the bulb plus the bulb itself?

so the bulb itself i need to choose a energy saving one?

So does it comes with different tones like warm white, white and yellow etc? yes...

T5 or T8 tube with holder, electronic(no need starter, as it is incorporate in in) or coil ballast(need starter)..plus connectors to link them up.

You can check with choo chiang marketing.. very famous. Can get at cheaper prices as compared to hardware shops..they have a website..

Would really appreciate your help to educate me on this...

Thanks in advance...

Fluorscent tube

- T5 is the thinner one, T8 is the fatter one.

- T8 2ft and 4ft are the most common (means u can buy easily downstairs at supermart). Other lengths are also usually available at hardware shop. So if your LBox length can be made up by either 2ft or 4ft tubes will be the best.

- ask the shop to test the colour to let u see b4 purchase. Coz diff brand uses different names (e.g cool daylight).

- T8 needs a starter + ballast. U can buy the bracket (i.e ballast will be hidden inside the bracket) or just the connector (linked by wire, ballast will be exposed). T5 is abit special.... not sure.

Downlight

- downlight comes with everything in one set. Electrician just need to connect the wire to the downlight, that's it.

- when u buy, u can tell the guy u want what colour of light, then they'll band in the correct blub.

- also got different wattage=different brightness.

Timer

- dunno, but could be abit complicated. Coz u also want a switch to be able to switch on/off the light beside the timer. Need something more hightech. Like the below:
