r348 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2008 Is it normal that the old kitchen tiles are not being hacked away and laid with new tiles before putting the kitchen cabinets for resale flat? Contractor say save money since we can't see the old tiles after cabinets are being put in place. Will there be any problems in the future?

Will there be any problems in the future? dont overlay new wall tiles on the existing old wall tiles. waste a lot of money. if overlay the new wall tiles over the existing wall tiles the thickness of the wall will be bigger. therefore your new kitchen cabinet will be smaller. even a few centimeters will have a big difference. if will be good to hack the wall tiles area and make good. then make ur new kitchen cabinet. you will have a slightly more space and u will save ur costing too. i think that your contractors or ID dont want to give you this idea. if is floor tiles check the condition of ur existing tiles. prevent any hollow sound if you want to overlay the tiles. but still would be good to hack and make new tiles. just to let u know that if either you are overlay the tiles or make new tiles please check for the hollow tiles again. nothing is 100% perfect so we need to becareful Edited August 6, 2008 by Devilaz
hihihi 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2008 Contractor say save money since we can't see the old tiles after cabinets are being put in place. Will there be any problems in the future? I would have to agree with the contractor on the potential cost savings. If hack, then extra cost: 1) Hack 2) Clear debris (if got other rooms have hacking, then can merge this cost) 3) Make the surface smooth again Of coz nobody likes traces of previous owner to be around, whether seen or not seen. But whether to hack or not hack must consult your pocket for approval.
