Sp Has A Heart (after All..)

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, just wanted to share my experience with SP (utilities)...

We were away for two weeks in June, and before we left, we made sure to clear the fridge so we could turn off the electricity mains, get a plant sitter, turn off the water mains etc...but it turns out the water main for my unit was located at the void deck, so whatever it was that my dad helped to turn off was not the main. Anyways, one of our spray hoses broke, leaving water to flow very freely for almost a week until our part-time amah came in and she saw that water was gushing from the pipe and called my parents. So in June we got a shocker of a utilities bill of $170, when usually we would have paid about $70 a month. Water consumption shot up 6-fold, from 9 Cu.M to 60!

Heart pain...decided to try my luck to ask SP for a partial waiver..emailed them, got a standard "we-have-forwarded-your-letter-to so and so" a couple of days later and thought all was lost. haiz. At least i tried right? But I was in for a very pleasant surprise...we just received our bill today and they gave us a partial bill waiver of $60. Isn't that nice?

So yeah, lesson learnt. If you're going to be away for a long time do turn off all the mains, to avoid wasting water and sky-high bills. I'm also very thankful that SP decided to consider my request and give a partial waiver. Times are getting hard, and it's little gestures like this that makes it easier. :)

I had my experience with SP services too.

Bought a new hob and got SP services to connect the gas to the hob and to turn on the gas. After doing so, the electrician told us the hob has problem. When the gas knob was released, the flame was very small. He told us it was a problem with the hob, can get the manufacturer's agent to adjust, and it should be fine.

Eventually, it was found out that the hob was faulty, and had to be changed. So, I had to call SP services to turn off the gas, and then when we had replaced the hob, make another appt to turn it on again.

While making 2nd turn on appt, the customer service officer checked the records and out of concern, asked why we had turned it on, and then off, and then on again in just a short period of 2 weeks. I explained to her our situation and she offered to waive the 2nd installation charge.

Although it later was not reflected in our bill and I have to make several calls to follow up on it, SP services eventually kept their word and waived it in my latest bill. It's just $50, but it was a nice surprise and good initiative.
