shark 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 Hi..i have a one year old boy, and intend to have more children in future. We love the open kitchen concept. Will this be a problem for household with kids. pls share your experience and thoughts. We are not thinking of total open concept with no wall, but thinking of the following option to have some sort of open concept kitchen: 1) hack the existing door bigger, so that we can have two sliding door that push to the side (left and right). so if i close up the door, i can prevent kids from going to kitchen. Won't want to use glass, cos of the danger. looking to do wooden door perhaps, with glass on the upper top half. 2) change the exiting traditional door to a sliding one, and build a breakfast counter top next to the door. the breakfast counter below will be wall. so on top of the breakfast counter, will be open concept, and if i slide the door open, it will look more 'open'. however, what can i use to close up the breakfast counter open space in the event i want to cook and prevent smell entering the dining and living? pls share. Jessie 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2008 hi shark, i hv 2 boys (3yrs old & 1yr old). my previous hse is also open concept kitchen, and my elder son is perfectly behaving with it. but, my younger son,...now by looking at his character,...i think he will be more difficult to handle,....he will sure walk in and out of the kitchen and pull things. so, each individual kids are different and it's very difficult to advise whether it's ok or not. i m also looking at open concept kitchen for my new hse,......and just have to make it a child-safe environment for the kids,
