Cyn 1 Report post Posted July 21, 2008 Hi, Would Appreciate if anyone could advise on the overhead beams in my Living room & Kitchen. Below are some pics Overhead Beam at the Kitchen Overhead beam at the Living room before dismantling the Balcony Sliding Door. Will dismantle the door and as my sofa is long, a small part of it will be under the beam. Pls refer to my drawing below. Below is my layout for my Kitchen & Living Room.. Orange- Position of the Overhead Beams. Yellow- Location of the Sink. The sink will be directly under the beam- Is it ok? Light Blue Dot- Position I'll be standing when doing the dishes. Is it ok? Grey Dot- Stove- To avoid facing the toilet door **My sofa is long therefore a small portion of it will be under the beam as seen in the drawing- Is it ok? Head is growing bigger and bigger day by day trying to figure the best solution... Pls help!! Thanks!
Kinryu69 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2008 Hi Cyn, I think u worry too much already. Normally the beam is detrimental if it is directly over the the stove and it will affect the female owner of the house. if over the sink, no prob. Even if the beam over your head when you do the dishes, it is not a a prob since it is only a few minutes. The sofa also no prob but avoid the part where it is directly under the beam. That's all. Not everything is a feng shui problem. Cheers

Think I'll shorten the length of the sofa cos if no one can sit under the beam, no point having one that extends below the beam.

kastlekonfusion 1 Report post Posted July 24, 2008 Normally the beam is detrimental if it is directly over the the stove and it will affect the female owner of the house. if over the sink, no prob. Oh dear....I know that it's no good to have the overhead beam directly over one's bed, dining table, cooking area, etc. And it's precisely this reason that we have been wondering how to fix this problem we are having in our kitchen planning. At first the plan was to have false ceiling made to hide the overhead beam. However, when the renovation permit was issued, we were told that the flooring has to raised to hide the support beam and we won't be able to have the false ceiling in that area due to minimum height clearance issues. I didn't know until now that if the overhead beam is directly over the stove, it will affect the female owner of the house. How does it affect the female owner? Make us give up cooking? h4happy 1 Report post Posted September 12, 2008 My 2cent...try to shift out (stove) is your stove is directly on top of the beam. I mean shift out a little bit if you get what I mean. Beams overhead also give your pressure in your work. Kind of stress you out. And the higher of your ceiling, the better you will be.
