Hi,

Has anyone tried designing the laudry to be in the bathroom ?(washing machine in the toilet/bathroom, while airing the clothes in another corner of the house) Noted that most of our singaporean houses have the laundry area at the end of the kitchen. Dun think its a good idea to hang our clothes in the kitchen while we are cooking rite?

u can put the washing machine in bathroom. But it is only u are staying in older homes, where size is bigger.

New flats' sizes are pathetic.

i have seen ppl putting washing machine in toilets. they are all staying in older homes, average about 15 yrs and older.

even with bigger bathrooms, i see that after putting the washing machine inside, it makes the whole bathroom look rather unpleasant.

Besides space contraint, i think the other problem is rust on the washing machine since the bathroom is usually wet and moist. Also, the washing machine will require a power socket, not sure if HDB allows the extenison of one into the toilet (I remember cannot).

As for hanging of laundry in ktichen, i think that is the contraint of living in a high rise unit. Can always remove them when cooking. Else where do you suggest to hang them? Bedroom? living room? I see people hang their laundry in their living room, bedroom, all over the shop and i think this is more unsightly than hanging in kitchen. Else buy those portable laundry rack and hang them along the corridor.

my parents hv their washing machine in the bathroom, it does take up a fair bit of space and before they renovated we had to sit sideways on the toilet bowl lol. they built a kerb and there is a power point and it was handy to hv it inside because we could use the water to wash the toilet.

as i dont cook (much) i do hang up my clothes in the kitchen. but when i do, i make sure that there's ample ventilation to get the fumes out. it's better to hv the washing machine nearer to the laundry area, so you dont hv to lug wet clothes across the house (HEAVY).

Hi there,

My house is a 30-year-old flat and the original laundry area is at the back of a very long kitchen and just at the entrance of the toilet (i.e we have to walk through the kitchen, the laundry area before reaching the common toilet)

Since i don't cook very often, i separated the laundry area from the kitchen with a sliding door so that the cooking fume can't dirty my clean clothes. :P At the same time, i opened up the toilet to join with the laundry area to create more space for that area.

If you have enough budget and want to perserve the spaciousness of the kitchen, you can actually install a glass door as a divider between the laundry area and the kitchen :)

Hope my sharing helps! :yamseng:

My parents used to have the washing machine placed in the bathroom in our previous flat. Not adviseable as the moisture caused the washing machine to rust quite badly.
