piwi 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2008 Hello! First post We just got hold of a 17 yr old resale flat, and need some advice! The unit is in good condition, but with age, we still end up having to do a lot of things. Can anyone tell us their experience and cost (from quote or payment) for any of the following? - The toilets need to be done, involving hacking of tiles and redoing the waterproofing, on top of removal of bathtub. - L-box and electrical wiring, installation of lights and ceiling fans. can only find the old thread lei...anyone know the current cost now? - Aircon split units and hiding of the wiring... - knocking out some cornices and rounded edges the previous owner built around the structural beams (all our structual beams round round one...) - any reliable painter? Have friends who got entire 5 room painted for $400, but buy your own paint for 1 freelancer to paint kind... we dont really need an interior designer because we have a family friend who help draw up some stuff for us...and hubbz wants to do the coordination between the diff contractors (ceiling guy, toilet guy, electrical guy etc) himself....bad idea? so any comments welcomes! sorry, very excited, have a lot of questions
Phantom 1 Report post Posted June 26, 2008 I would say, save the trouble and get an ID or Contractor to do the job, Its a tiring process and with work and all, its a daunting prospect trying to handle it yourself. At least with someone in charge, you can more or less take your mind off most of the stuff.

The unit is in good condition, but with age, we still end up having to do a lot of things. Can anyone tell us their experience and cost (from quote or payment) for any of the following? depends on how much you wanna throw. - The toilets need to be done, involving hacking of tiles and redoing the waterproofing, on top of removal of bathtub. 1 toilet aprrox $3k - L-box and electrical wiring, installation of lights and ceiling fans. can only find the old thread lei...anyone know the current cost now? could be close to $1600-$1800 now - everything went up. - knocking out some cornices and rounded edges the previous owner built around the structural beams (all our structual beams round round one...) ex owner must be particular about fengshui. removing/hacking cornice wont be exp. hubbz wants to do the coordination between the diff contractors (ceiling guy, toilet guy, electrical guy etc) himself....bad idea? can he always leave his work(job/biz) and go back to check the house ANYTIME between 9am-6pm? if yes, why not? coordination in reno doesnt just means planning/engaging pple - it means COORDINATION+supervising on the spot when the workers are doing it! My sis's ID did a very bad job with coordinating. Say painters etc coming down on this day, and no one turns up unless she go down and harass them to come and paint or run wires etc. pointy corners = bad fengshui? i still thinking wanna hack off or not, wouldnt know what to do with a rectangular strutural pillar anyway!
