I am also interested to add some wood onto our balcony. Can anyone share with some pictures of the type of wood used. Thanks a lot.

The wood that they use on the back of the lorries are just common plywood.

They do not have to withstand and it is not intended to withstand harsh weather.

Instead it is made to withstand abuse from the loading and unloading of heavy items, some sort of cheap protection for the lorry metal base.

Over time, the plywood does not look good, and is not in good condition. I'm sure you do not want your balcony decking to be in such a run down condition after sometime.

The reason ply wood is used for the back of lorries, is because its cheap and serves its purpose.

It is also cheap to replace should you wanna change it.

It will not look and feel good or be in good condition over time for sure due to rain and sun.

Another option you can use, cheaper than chengai, teak, or other weather resistant woods....

Would be the kind of wood they use for house roofs.

for outdoor weathering...chengai wood will be best....an alternative would be balau (not sure of spelling) wood. i'm also looking to have timber decking at my patio measuring about 97 sqft. i got 2 contractors all quoted the same price of $2500. duuno if its good price?

Hi, thanks for the info. Will surely check them out. Btw, have anyone heard of Plastic Lumber? I considering this option for my patio and it's suppose to be everlasting and I'm also concern of wood splinters since we will be walking bare footed on the floor deck.

For outdoor decks, Merbau, Composite or Chengai timber are all suitable.

Merbau timber is imported from Indonesia. It is Kiln-Dried (Oven Dry) treated to ensure that the material is stable with minimal shrinkage, surface splits and pin-holes which is more commonly associated with chengai timber. Durability is comparable to chengai. Merbau is mainly exported for the Australian market for beach front board walks and other various uses.

Composite timber is created to solve the problem of discolouration found on timber decks due to prolonged weathering. Our composite timber decks are tested for up to 20 years worth of UV treatment and colour fading is around 5% +/- which is negligible over that long a period. Composite decks are popular with commercial projects that requires minimal maintenance.
