Bycast Leather Sofa

Recommended Posts

Hi,

What is Bycast leather? Difference from PVC or PU Leather?

How to tell the difference?

Is there different grades of Bycast leather?

I have seen Barang Barang bycast leather sofa and other 'no name' shops bycast leather sofa or PU leather.

i can tell the difference between Barang Barang's and other shops by feeling the sofas

Obviously Barang one feels more like leather. i can even scratch the sofa and marks are left on it. But other 'no name' shops', it really feels like PVC or whatever, i cannot scratch it with marks.

Any advise?

no one knows anything about leather?

saw a good deal for $999 a bicast leather, 3+1. in the end did not commit. From what i understand, bi-cast is treated leather. ultimately must ask what is the leather, buffalo or cowhide. of cos full leather is better than bi-cast.

Some explanation from the web:

1. Bicast leather (also known as bycast leather or PU leather) is a synthetic upholstery product consisting of a thick polyurethane layer applied to a leather or reconstituted leather substrate. It is commonly found in inexpensive furniture.

Some manufacturers use the bycast treatment to process their leather, which provides a smooth, shiny finish as well as protection to the leather.

Because bicast leather is fundamentally a man-made product, some jurisdictions (such as New Zealand and the United Kingdom) have ruled that it cannot be marketed as leather.

Think some forumer did mentioned that you tend to get very hot easily with Bi-Cast leather than real leather. Well for me, except for the stickyness that find with real leather, other than that its very comfortable to sit on.
