Wall Mounted Speaker & Amp Built-in Yamaha Ysp-3000?

Recommended Posts

Looking for good contractors? Click here for your request

The Yamaha is a sound field projector that utilizes the side and rear walls to reflect sound waves to simulate surround sound. It will work as claimed only if the location you are placing the unit in is a rectangular/square room. Do a search on Google on reviews on this unit to find out for yourself its strengths and shortcomings before making an informed decision.

Also, one will have to seriously tweak the settings to achieve decent sound and if you are a discerning listener, such units will still lose out to a true surround sound system with physical rear speaker units.

These units are good for those who wish to have a sleek/one-piece unit without additional wiring at the expense of sound quality.

The front main and center speakers should be of the same brand/model if possible to ensure even tonality. The rear surrounds are not as important. However, since many loudspeaker manufacturers now sell HT speakers as a set, then it is more convenient to buy them as a set.

Have not been heavily involved in the HT scene for some time but you should visit The Adelphi and check out some of the systems available there. Brands like PSB, KEF, Paradigm, Energy, Mission etc. are definitely a cut above the mass market Sony, Pioneer, Panasonic, Samsung etc.

A good HT system should last many years. My own HT system purchased 2nd hand way back in 2001 is still serving me well to-date and is still relevant today (just can't play the latest surround sound formats but good enough for regular DVDs in DD, DTS-EX).

Hi TYM

I saw the price in TODAY newspaper for 1599+100 rebate by audio house

For this price u can top up another few hundreds to buy a decent HT. :sport-smiley-004:

Mayb, but this design seems sleek, classy and simple, no fussing around with wiring and speakers. Can consider, for me. :)

Let me share my opinion on Yamaha YSP soundbars.

Pros -

1) Good for bedroom with TV

2) Minimal wiring

Cons -

1) Not good for living room. Its better if you demo in a "normal" room to test its audio effectiveness

2) Not a true HTS.

3) Sub wont be able to pick up low frequency bass & wont be powerful enough

4) I personally do not like built in amp. What if one day, i want to change to a more powerful amp? I need to ditch the soundbar as well.

5) How will a soundbar's back speakers work? I still cannot comprehend it yet. U can try watching say, Gladiators, esp the Roman arena scene where the crowd's applause can be heard very clearly on a true 5.1/6.1 HTS but very inaudible using a YSP.

With your budget of $1,599 one can get a decent HTS set up. Then again, its up to individual preference. Much like those who likes Bose system because it looks nice & not because it sound nice. Bose's latest system has HDMI AUDIO processing (Not video hor) but it'll cost you anything above $5K. With that kind of money, one can get a better system worth many times more than Bose say the Tannoy Arena.

Cheers

Vince

Thank you all for ideas.

Its true that Yamaha YSP soundbars cant compare with conventional HTS. The price is quite stiff.

Currently, i have Marantz Receiver SR92, Marantz CD-63 MKII & Velodyn SubWoofer. But all still working. But i m not sure what main speakers should i go for to pair up my OLD antique players.

Are they still worth investing?

Ah Gon

Wah....u already got 2 goldmine ticket wor. The marantz CD-63 MK is a **** solid player. Much more holding power than the say, Arcam. And your Velodyn, my dream sub. Which model is your Velodyne?

Since u already got the setup in place, i can suggest u change your amp & get a pair of B&W603s. It's still within your budget though.

Cheers

I second what Vince has said. You should keep the sub and CD player and use them till they fail. Not sure about the specs for the SR-92 but if it can decode DD and DTS and if you are not too much of a HT fanatic, then you can re-use it too. Invest in a good set of main speakers, center and rear surrounds (preferably all from the same model range) and you are good to go! You may need a DVD player though...I suggest getting an Oppo which is by far one of the best DVD players in the market (have to get it 2nd hand as no retail shops stock this brand).

However, all these are just opinions. At the end of the day, it is your money and you will be living with the equipment so it is still good to do your own research and make an informed judgement/choice based on the data gathered.

I would either sold off the SR92 or shift it into my room. :notti:

Looking at ur juice are u more into music than moives? :sport-smiley-004:

Currently what spks are u playing with SR92, cos dont forget if u wan to enjoy moives u still have to add on centre and rear spks and ur CD player also have to upgrade to unviersal DVD plyer. :sport-smiley-004::deal:

But most important work within the budget. :yamseng:
