Connie 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2008 Hi wuga98, I'm thinking of placing a wine cooler at my home shelter but worry that my HS will become very warm. Do you have such problem in your HS? Found an artical regarding wine coolers (http://www.cellaryourwine.com/winecoolerreviews.htm). Anyone knows which brand uses thermoelectric instead of compressor? Is it true that wooden rack is better steel rack? Thanks! I have 2 chillers, the bigger one in the Home shelter, and the smaller one below my bar counter top, the last time i measure mine, it's something like ~H850mm. Do select the model first and then get the dimensions for customization. some popular brand, europace, kadeka, EF .... etc If you want dual temp, that is going to cost you and the other thing is that if the capacity is small, it does not make sense to have 2 temp. One tip is to place your white on the lowest shelf of your chiller, cold air settles, thus it will be colder on your lower shelves. Hope this helps.

If you want the italian, french made ones, be prepare to pay >$5k. Personal preference on racks, no scientific following to which is "better" Hi wuga98, I'm thinking of placing a wine cooler at my home shelter but worry that my HS will become very warm. Connie 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2008 My HS door is closed most of the time, only has a small round opening at the top for air circulation...I guess that's not enough right? There's a hearsay that wooden rack will cause less vibration as compare with steel rack when placing or arranging of wine bottles...sound logical, but is true that yet to find any written evidence for that. my chiller have been in the HS for ~5yrs and i don't close the HS steel door, no issue leh... so long there is air circulation, it shd be fine. most if not all chiller now is made in china. wuga98 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2008 I would think it shd be fine, from the wine perspective as it is kept cool. As to the generation of heat from the chiller, it depends on what you have in the HS that you may be concern about heat damaging it. If whatever that you are keeping is within the acceptable range, then the likelyhood of having an issue will most likely not be there. Wood has a dampening affect that is a fact but if you feel the actual vibration of the chiller it's almost negligible and also different school of thoughts also says that vibration affects aged/old wine....well if you keep $10k per bottle wine in your chiller, i think the league is really very different and everything works on a relative basis. I would think it may be better to build a home cellar where you can have some very unique, fail safe features with environmental control. I am not sure if i have mentioned this before, but i have gone 1 full circle and came back to realize that some of the options that i have discarded is actually the best suited for me. My take is this, understand your taste in wine, year, metal cap/cork, and price. If you like to keep wine that cost a "bomb", i believe your fail safe needs to be enhance to insure your wine don't turn to vinegar if you chiller goes down. If you keep cost per bottle wine <$100/-... personally, the general setup shd be fine. There are good wine ranges that does not cost you much which you and your spouse love to drink and probably keep a few bottle handy for you weekly binge. Over time, you will most likely stock up on a few specific house and types. I started with a chiller full of garbage, sometimes i pick 5-6 bottles to try based on rating but end up not liking it. Wine is about personal choice and taste, you may compromise your taste when you are in a large setting as it is difficult to get what you want but when it comes to being "home", i like to indulge in what i like to drink. Over the years, even my spouse has different liking that both of us likes/dislikes. wuga98 0 Report post Posted July 28, 2008 wah seh, really, finally found someone who do not think i am nuts. The height of both the chiller and the waist height fridge is about 850-890mm, Depth and also the width, i will have to get back to you as i need to measure. The chiller dimensions is pretty std and most of those in the market is around there. The fridge is that one i have search long and hard, especially one that has a glass door. I actually got this one from the industrial park in pemimpin, it was meant for small commercial setup but it is exactly what i wanted. If you can wait, i can give you something on Friday as i am in the php now. hi wuga98, i am looking at exactly the same setup as you. i am thinking of putting my chiller below the kitchen top and next to it will be my fridge. can you share what is the brand and model no. of the chiller you are currently using now? ogre 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2008 I went to Best Denki recently to look at the wine chillers. According to the sales, for build in wine chiller, must get those with ventilation vents at the front type. Reason is very obvious, those with ventilation at the back might not be able to "breath" very properly.... sad.... because those with ventilation at the front type are very expensive... the cheapest that I saw is already $899... and the rest are normally $1200+... furthermore they come in standard height... the shortest that I found is 815mm. way taller than what my ID had given me... anyone came across any wine chiller with front ventilation that is smaller in size??? the sales person told me that i can't find any in the market that is of smaller size... LarryMcCoy 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2016 (edited) Hi Sophia, hope you are doing well.It totally depends upon the size of your collection. If you have collection of around15 bottles I will recommend you Culinair AW162S Thermoelectric wine cooler and it cost around $265. One of my friend is using the same cooler for storing his wine and and it's working fine.If you have collection of around 50 bottles you can go for wine enthusiast silent 48 dual zone touch screen wine cooler that costs around $625.Trust me it's amazing. Before buying any wine cooler just make sure that your wine cooler is equipped with latest technologies of temperature and humidity control as your wrong choice of wine cooler will ruin the taste of your wine. Ideal temperature for storing wine is around 55 degrees Fahrenheit. You can also go for commercial wine storage. Here are some sites that you can check out for proper storage of your wine.......http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=wine+cellarshttp://www.griffinwinestorage.comhttp://www.ebay.com/bhp/wine-coolerhttp://www.homedepot.com/b/Appliances-Wine-Beverage-Keg-Coolers-Wine-Coolers/N-5yc1vZc4fjEnjoy surfing and drinking :yeah: Edited January 22, 2016 by LarryMcCoy
