I thought there is a HDB requirement set that requires the ceiling height to be of a certain limit, cannot be too low with L Box or ceiling or that the flooring level cannot be too high?

I think it is the flooring level that is probably the reason why your ceiling height seems much closer to your bf vertically cos the beam cannot be hacked or reduced one way which would require a PE for this. I remember vaguely reading one of the blogs here where the owner go check the level by putting a spray can at the main door kerb to see the level of flooring btwn his neighbour and his. Apparently his unit flooring was higher than the neighbour's due to the thick cement slab under (Paiseh cannot remember whose blog was it, too long ago.) :)

Thanks Bunbun,

ID did mention to us the eveness and levelling of the laminate which we think we can't really do much about it already. We happened to drop by our neighbour's newly renovated house, our Beam with the aircon trunking is much lower. and our flooring is much higher. urgh... we wonder about the beam. but we know we can't do much for the floor.

ID told us that there is a layer of skeleton just below the the trunking to support it. It's pretty standard also. Even neighbor's ID (he was there when we were there) also told us it should be a standard. then y our neighbor's one is not as low as ours leh??

My bf could stretch his arm below the beam of neighbour's but only could do a 3 inch hand sign below ours..

Love your living room ! So bright and airy...

We had the same problem with the height of our floors. After the laminates people came to lay the boards in the living room, we realised that the floor was too high as the main door scratches the laminates when we opened/closed it. Complained to the id and he said that it could be uneven cement screeding by HDB. he also said that the laminates people should have checked and trim the main door. So now we have to call them back and do just that. :furious:

At least you still have chance to amend.

The Hiccups So Far...

Our renovation began with two idiots who have no idea what to do with the house. We bought every magazine that publishes monthly hoping to see something we like. It did not work out as things we liked are of mixed theme that's why I had a post on ROJAK theme.

Our poor ID has proposed a few layout and design which had been rejected by us. The only one accepted was the kitchen and yet I still change some details at the end of the day.

Our schedule has always been pushing back, of many reasons.

We do not have a full proof of how our house will look like. We design our own house as it progresses. Many times, we wonder does the problem really lie on us especially when we have very different opinions.

Firstly, it begin on selecting the tiles which took weeks. And then it was deciding the laminate colors when he likes it maple and I like it dark walnut.

Then it came the miscommunication on the kitchen floor tiles which wasted another week to request for permit, hack and re-laying them.

Finally, the electrical and ceiling work began! ID noticed the L-Box was wrongly. And so when it was finally changed and redone, they found another problem, the spotlight does not fit the size. :o The worker were very reluctant to tear everything down and redo it again as it is going to be alot of work. Fortunately, ID managed to source from another lighting shop that fits.

My heart pinched that time when seeing the amount of material we have wasted.

Next, would be the very low ceiling in our house. Now, we worried what happened if the platform is up. Bf decided to reduce it to 3-inch and we wonder if a 3-inch platform will look abnormal. :dunno:

Painting should start this Tues, but fickle minded us requested to hold till we meet him again on wed and final the colors. The white on white theme will seem to go.

The tv feature and console has been taking a long time to confirm the design as well. Due to some wiring problem. My ID and Bf is still in the midst of discussing how to make it seamless.

It's going to be unexpected. It's going to be a surprise. At least I have decided on the bombshelter feature.

Don't worry, yer not the only one. Renovating a home is definitely not an easy feat, especially if you are one with expectations. Me and my FH have changed our ideas so often that we have no clue how the house is going to turn out either. And even if the confusion and dilemma's not causing the delay, unforeseen circumstances such as wrong fittings/poor workmanship can occur, causing similar amount of frustration.

No matter, Im sure your home will turn out lovely knowing the amount of effort & thought you've put into it. :yamseng:

We are considering over 3 sofas. Or rather 2.

1st Choice: From Objet. Bf love the way it slopes that give some edginess to the house. Objet os now having sales to end July.

Slope.jpg

2nd Choice: From Massimo. It's simple and modern. One that will not go wrong.

Mission from Evov. We used to consider getting this. However, the comfort of it did not win us over.

I llike their Satori sofa though but BF didn't like it.

Bf like the Box Sofa, may splurge for the entertainment area. :dancingqueen:

How much is the first one? I saw something similiar before at sofaalab, a company by massimo. They have a lot of fabrics and I think some looks similiar to the one in your pic. Price is $898 to $1398 depending on the delivery date. Oh ya, they sell the pillows too :) The pic may not look great (thats what we thought too) but the real thing looks better and all their sofa are of a certain quality... Best thing is cheap la.

Hi Lowmh, sorry to only see your message today, I know I am late...

The latest amendment to the quote is $46k. However, there still some changes here and there, so we are expecting not more than $50K. :)

Hi all, it's been very long since I last log into Renotalk.

I would just like to share the finally completed matrimonial house by Ideal House, Steven.

It begins from flipping through numerous home styling magazines, going around to showrooms, surfing Renotalk looking at others beautiful home to get ideas and inspiration. And it all pieced up into what is shown below.

And finally I found a theme only after completion, The White & Grey Theme.

The Entrance = Welcome :)
