BunBun 5 Report post Posted May 13, 2008 Very nice also. From your floorplanner drawing, it appears that you'd going to remove bedroom3 to make space for a proper dining area & open concept kitchen which is why the living & dining area will look big upon entering the place. Only one room left for you as study room right? I like the open concept kitchen too, pity mine not able to go for an open concept kitchen due to the kitchen entrance actually. My kitchen entrance is like the width 2 doors facing the passageway but next to it is the HHS so cannot la. Lucky you
bluedusk 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2008 skywolf, greentea: my taste is quite eccentric in a way and I don't mind the dark theme as long it doesn't swing to sadistic or occultic kind of dark. Of cos having such a theme requires us to pay a high price for lights and bright classy furniture. Its all about making the right combinations in everything. Think for this theme, u either love it or hate it Simplyannes: Thanks! Hope the actual thing will turn out even greater! Very nice also. Basically we hack quite a bit of walls. Like what you said, after hacking I only left the study room which will also be guestroom in any case we need. If you really want an open concept kitchen, I'm sure there's a way around it. But open concept like mine is more suitable for couples who doesn't really cook. This is more like a bar counter to me. actually my floorplan gives me alot of headache, with the slanted walk in master, long living which is ugly if you wanna clam dining there. gotta hack here hack there
BunBun 5 Report post Posted May 13, 2008 It would be difficult to do an open concept kitchen as the HHS is beside the kitchen. There's a small wall that partially juts out at the point where the HHS is and so planning for an open kitchen layout is also very tricky given that my kitchen is 1 long slim rectangular area, not a fat square. But then I can't cook but just starting to bake. Finding that baking is fun I guess so probably not good if an open concept is not for cooking? Do post more pics of your reno process. bluedusk 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2008 Nevermind about open concept kitchen then! It's harder to clean and I cant install Hood (cos it will be very ugly to) My kitchen originally is super small so no point not open concept... lol My reno process is vvvvvv slow...wanna zzz already. Now sourcing for aircon (2 system non inverter) any lobangs? It would be difficult to do an open concept kitchen as the HHS is beside the kitchen. The floorplan is good for laying out your stuff and see what stuff you need to buy.. Visual aid not so much... =P Cos the colors not v accurate and variety is not alot. Laminate got many varieties, perhaps you want to check with your ID again? Virgo2829: Thanks! Let's hope the real thing is awesome. Have you source your aircon already? I am still looking. Well, the maintenance part is really on the dust. It will be quite obvious. As for watermarks, the person assured me that won't happen as many people used dark tiles for kitchen which is much exposed to water and oil. (but of coz dunno can trust the person anot) yours is black right? so no need much maintaince since stray hair will not show. but not sure if water marks would be more visiable after mopping? bluedusk 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2008 A Picture of some of the tiles I have chosen (and not chosen) Not seen are the toilet wall tiles (which I forgot to take the samples...zzz) I took the picture without considering the very yellowish night lamp besides me and so the picture turns out to be quite yellowish. =P This is white equivilent of my black tile. Also $3.80.... very very white and nice. (sorry the picture is a bit pinky because of my pink curtains.)

Not many people will dare to venture into such a dark theme. Took me lots of research and guts to do so. LOL
Guest blushwax Report post Posted May 16, 2008 (edited) Thanks! Not many people will dare to venture into such a dark theme. Took me lots of research and guts to do so. LOL Yeah not many ppl dare to take such a step. Including me. Haha. I simply LOVE the changes you made. The TV feature wall in living room is just awesome! And yes...darker red is nicer. Black is my ultimate love and I'm just drooling looking at your drawings. Wonderful! Too bad my other half is not very adventurous or I would have gone for the red and black combo. Matte black homo tiles? I wanted to go with black tiles too but I prefer the gloss finishing and like you said. it's not black enough and the shade varies with each tile. Not very nice. Considered black marble tiles but way out of our budget. Heh...so stick with grey. The tiles u chose for the feature wall super nice!!!! Looking forward to more of your reno pics. bluedusk 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2008 Wow. its been sooooo long since I last update. Has been so busy with work and renovation ... cant wait for the handover to come to pass soon (tentatively in 2-3weeks time) Renovations have been really slow....ZzzzzzzZZZzzzzzzz... no pictures for now as it is simply too messy for any decent shots at the moment. Some Updates and Thoughts... 1) Black is beautiful. My first coat is up and I must say it is very surreal. BUT it is also really very dark. Hence I asked for some parts of the wall color to be in dark grey instead. The effect of dark grey and black together is quite nice and does not gives u a moody feeling. 2) Black is troublesome. Because maybe my ID do not have much experience with renovating a house with a black theme, he did not foresee the possible problems that black theme will face. Problem 1: Lights become too glaring as the contrast is too great, plus HDB flats do not have high ceilings so it is very uncomfortable for my eyes (my hubby okay with it tho, so maybe its juz my sensitive eyes). Still trying to solve this problem. Problem 2: Very dark. So really need to play around with mixing with other colors and furniture. 3) Aircon in Living Room. As it is not appropriate to put a ceiling fan anywhere in the living room, the only alternative is aircon as we do not believe in blowing fans. This is an ultra cost increase for us as it takes 2 units in the living room. So in total we spent $7000+ on aircon and trunking. Thankfully the trunking is quite well done and hidden. ZzzZZz. 4) No more nice sliding glass doors at balcony area Thanks to HDB not approving my req to hack that stupid pillar and extend my small balcony, it is not feasible to install expensive glass doors. So we only level the balcony. ------------ After so long.... - Black Matte Homogeneous Tiles + Skirting up (very nice) - Walls hacked and plastered smooth - Aircon piping up - Electrical works done - False ceiling up - Toilet wall + floor tiles up - Downlights up Pending works - Installation of switches - Carpentry: Feature walls (Bomb Shelter, TV), Kitchen Cabinet/Bar Counter, Master Bedroom Wardrobe - Installation of Toilet + Kitchen Accessories - Installation of Mirror Feature at Dining - Laminate Flooring at Bedrooms (x2) - Installation of Casement Windows + Grills - Iron Gate and 2 Bedroom Doors - Aircon Unit x4 - Toilet Glass Doors - Installation of Curtains ZZZZzz.. dunno if they can really handover in 2 weeks. $$$ no enough. Pictures of some of our purchases Fabric Sofa (exact same color) This sofa feels very different from other fabric sofa we sat on, and manage to won us over despite us favoring leather sofa from the start. This is not cheap too, despite being a non-leather sofa but we just go with our feelings. (sigh) Dining Table I didnt like how typical tempered glass dining look like - thin with visible round metal thingy. So we immediately fell in love with this simple black dining set. No Visible Metal thingy! Smooth and Thick! Comes with 4 of these comfortable velvet Dining Chairs. For my small kitchen counter/bar counter, we bought the following: These are all in metal black and the smallest we can find. $$$$$$$$ All in all... Lights: $1260 Toilets/Kitchen Accessories: $2600 Sofa+Dining: $4300 Donations pls...........................................................o_______O
