jeddie 0 Report post Posted March 27, 2008 (edited) himy resale flat's common toilet has a squating toilet bowl (seen in some shopping malls' toilets, 1 big step above the ground). I understand from one reno contractor that it is not possible to hack that step to level the ground to install the sitting toilet bowl. which means, i will be installing my sitting toilet bowl right on top of a step, which is very inconvenient for kids and elderly.I have called hdb, was advised that if my current floor plan shows a sitting toilet bowl, this means that the squating bowl was installed by the previous owners, thus it would not be original and can be hacked to level it up. Just wondering how true it is coz i was some floor plans with sitting toilet bowls indicated, however, in actual, it is a squating toilet (which means the floor plan is not accurate).anyone has any comments or advise for this situation?I am very disturbed by what the reno contractor says... !! Max383 1 Report post Posted March 27, 2008 Have u considered adding bricks to built a platfirm to be level with the step? It is silly I know... but should solve the problem, no? Can't totally trust those HDB drawings. Mine had my common toilet bowl on the wrong side.

GoalHome 1 Report post Posted March 28, 2008 Exploring some ideas...Is it possible to level up with the step (where the WC is)... and thereby creating a recess in the shower area? This way can create a nice wet and dry area. Will this option be approved by HDB?
Max383 1 Report post Posted March 28, 2008 Hmm... can't imagine height being an issue for HDB in this case.... else, the original step would have been a violation as well.GoalHome's suggestion of a wet and dry area is a good idea. Just extend the step out a little enough for people to step in front of the toilet. I am sure that's a reasonable request for HDB's approval. From my dealings with HDB officers... they are actually quite helpful and would not want to reject ideas if they are of good intentions and not violating serious safety codes. jeddie 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2008 goalhomesure, do hope i dun have to do that though...is ur toilet same layout as mine? toilet bowl on step?
GoalHome 1 Report post Posted March 28, 2008 Hi jeddie,Yes same... the toilet bowl is on a step. For me, i prefer to have a recess shower area rather than a shower kerb. So i'm exploring this idea. But not sure if HDB will give approval.
jeddie 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2008 goalhomeu have any pics to show me?
GoalHome 1 Report post Posted March 28, 2008 oh dear can't find any pics. but i remembered seeing it somewhere and find the effect looks good. much cleaner cut than the shower kerb... furthermore, my experience with shower kerb is that water don't flow out well or fast enough. jeddie 0 Report post Posted April 2, 2008 just went to my new place last night. asked the owner and she say she was the one who installed the squatting toilet...original was sitting..thank god...so now confirmed can hack....
GoalHome 1 Report post Posted April 2, 2008 Better double check with HDB cos if it turns out otherwise, you'll be liable for the works. Hmm rarely does owner change from sit to squat pan, funny.
lawry 3 Report post Posted April 3, 2008 Mine was from squat to seat. The step up was flatten.
GoalHome 1 Report post Posted April 3, 2008 Lawry, you mean you level up the bathroom floor to be the same height as the step? Need HDB approval? After doing the level up, is the bathroom floor higher or lower than the kitchen floor?
