hobbes187 0 Report post Posted August 10, 2008 Hasnt updated this page for some time... After all the hoo-ha over the colour of the Serta bedframe, we managed to find a buyer and sold it off. He even engagaed a transport company to collect it And we ordered another bedframe already Barang Barang had a 43% discount storewide over the National Day weekend for the first 43 customers... We saw this promo and knew we cant miss it... We ordered a Pusan frame yesterday... Good deal at 43% discount Think this frame is much nicer and coordinate better with our room colour... Now we're still waiting for some final touch ups before the flat is ready for hand over... Some painting and minor patching of tiling works... And we discovered something that may delay handover for a few more weeks... We first spotted some patches (quite faint but visible) on the ceiling in one of the bedrooms and my ID told me it is a possible leak from the roof (since we are at top flr). But he said he will paint over it and observe. True enough, the patches reappeared!!! I'm getting the HDB officer to come down this week and I think we have to convince them to fix the roof somehow... I'm worried they may say its not serious enough to warrant action from them as I saw from Jessie's blog how much trouble she had with HDB over this issue
hobbes187 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2008 (edited) HDB officer just called me to make arrangement to meet up with him and the TC officer to assess the seepage problem. Anyone has previous experience on this? How can I force HDB to redo the waterproofing on the rooftop and the external walls? I'm worried they will brush it off since the seepage may not be as obvious on the day they view as it may have dried up somewhat... applefreak 1 Report post Posted August 11, 2008 maybe you want to take some pictures of the problem also, tell them to correspond with you via email and letters try to corner them into a position where they either redo the waterproofing or pay for any damage to your furniture my experience tells me that anything 'agreed' upon over the phone doesn't mean anything
BunBun 5 Report post Posted August 11, 2008 (edited) I agree with apple on this. HDB is like this one, unless you got it pat down in black and white before you shoot them back in their words. Btw. nice bedframe. maybe you want to take some pictures of the problem also, tell them to correspond with you via email and letters try to corner them into a position where they either redo the waterproofing or pay for any damage to your furniture my experience tells me that anything 'agreed' upon over the phone doesn't mean anything Edited August 11, 2008 by BunBun

I emailed them thru the myHDB site but they called me up instead of replying by emails... Maybe they dont want anything down in BnW. Think they getting smarter too! skywolf 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2008 You can still insist a black and white on their reply. Just say you are @ a meeting or you can't talk now and your mtg will end in xxx hrs time (after 6pm).
hobbes187 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2008 Met with the HDB and TC officers today and the conclusion was that they will get the contractors to redo the water proofing on the rooftop area above the affected room. Apparently every block is under warranty for 10 yrs from the contractors who built it and the TC incur no cost if they get them to rectify defects within the 10 yrs. The officer said even after 10yrs, if the problem surfaced again, the TC will bear the cost since the roof is under their responsibility. It went much smoother than expected as they agreed to rectify the fault quite readily and didnt push away responsibility. Also, I was told by my ID that the case 2 months ago of the 2nd flr flat being flooded due to our washing has been reopened!! Apparently, the TC insurers did not compensate them the cost of the damaged lights as it was decided that the TC was not at fault. The owners have ordered their contractor to stop work since that day and their reno have been at a standstill for a few months. Now they have gone back to HDB and seems to want compensation from either his own contractor or my ID... Heard that they even went to the MP to write to HDB and TC... I can understand their frustrations but I think since HDB and TC are refusing to pay despite the MP letters and there are no conclusive evidence who is at fault, its a hard case for them to fight. Maybe their contractor will end up paying them since he was the one who put everything in the balcony (I wonder why he didnt lock them in the shelter)
hobbes187 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2008 Almost a month since my last entry here... Been really busy adding stuff to our place Bought a Samsung Series 5 40" LCD at comex last weekend. We went down with a few shortlisted full-HD models - the Samsung Series 5 37" and 40", Series 6 40", Sony W series 40" and Panasonic 37". We prefer the 2 Samsung models more among the whole batch cos they seem the most bang for buck. The sony image quality is slightly better but sony is now using samsung panel and cost about $500 more. At comex, we weren't particularly impressed with the prices after walking the first few levels... They were offering both the Samsung models for exactly the same price I saw at courts a few days before comex and even the freebies were the same... We also realised that the 2 vendors selling Sony were not offering any fantastic prices or freebies and there werent much incentive for us to fork out the extra money for the W series. It seems the shops now know that they dont need to slash prices too much to entice ppl to buy, just another $50 or $100 voucher is enough. I was thinking that we will be leaving without buying anything when I passed by the Mustafa booth on level 6. The salesman quoted the Samsung S5 40" at $2099 + $300 voucher + home theatre system. Then he asked me if I'm interested in the display set. I was surprised they still had the display set as most of the better ones have been sold at the other booths. In the end he offered me the S5 40" display set at $1559 + $300 voucher. I grabbed it after inspecting the TV for defects. I thought it was a very good price for a Full HD 40" TV and I saved more than $500 and still got the voucher. The TV was delivered a few days ago and it was as good as new with no scratches or damage. Using the hidden menu, I confirmed that the TV was turned on for only 42hrs which was the 4 days over comex. We are very happy at this bargain

hobbes187 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2008 great buy you've got there :dribble: Thanks! Some of my other furnitures ordered have also been delivered - sofa from sofaalabs and coffee table from home themes. I'm particularly satisfied with the sofa... We ordered it 5 months ago and took the maximum discount by taking delivery only in Sept... For $700+, the quality of the sofa is excellent. The workmanship is also good and we get a free set of replacement fabric in another colour. The coffee table we ordered feels slightly small for the sofa but i guess we'll make do with it. The delivery service of the shop could be better... The guy told me it will arrive by 4pm but I waited till 530pm before it came and no one called to inform me of the delay. Wanted to take some picturs of the house, brought my cam but forgot the SD card!!! So I will take pictures the next time I go over.

hobbes187 0 Report post Posted September 14, 2008 (edited) Finally found some time to take a few photos of the latest additions to the place... This is the Sofaalabs sofa delivered last week... For $700+ for the sofa and one extra cover, we feel that its quite a bargain But the downside is you gotta wait 5 months for them to deliver so if u are thinking of buying for your new place, do it as early as possible!! You can also see the glass coffee table we got. I got a call from the shop one wk after it was delivered to ask me if i was satisfied with the quality and if there's anything that they should take note of. Thats good customer service Next is the Samsung Series 5 40" TV we got at comex. Great bargain considering the cheap cheap price that we paid for it... And finally, the dining room mirror that we ordered from the ID. We actually bought an Ikea one for $99 but it was a bit small and producing wavy reflections if u stand a bit further away so we ended up getting a refund. This one is much better both in terms of size and looks. We also finally unwrapped the barang barang table after keeping it all wrapped up throughout the reno.
