babytan 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2008 U like the corner console? I find it a bit too big lei. And the front panels could be done better. Will definitely make my ID re-design it. I've been playing around with the shelter feature on photoshop. Hopefully can come up with something. I've also got an idea on how the TV console should be, maybe will try drawing it with google sketchup Tmr will be lighting installation... Hope my lights turn out nice big meh? i think ok for big TV mah..hehhee hope to see some sketches from you..hahah scali better than ID
hobbes187 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2008 I went over today to take a look and some additional stuff have been done. Painting has been completed for all the white walls and 1st coat of the dark and coloured walls is up. ID was saying the 2nd coat will be done after carpentry is up because if these darkers walls get dirty, touching up will result in uneven patches. So its better to do the entire 2nd and 3rd coat after carpentry. Living room - The darker wall will have the TV console and the colour turned out pretty well. Luckily I used this instead of Mocha Delight as it is just the shade I want. Mocha will be too dark... MBR - Will be considering a darker colour for our headboard now since the wall is of a lighter shade. Maybe we will choose dark drown suede as the headboard + bedframe material Guestroom Study room - We thought for a long time before deciding to go ahead with this colour. This is the ICI Vintage Yellow and it definitely makes the room vibrant and cheery, great for a study/relax room . I like the result after the initial coat, hopefully it will look even better after the 2nd coat. Stuff stowed away in store room
hobbes187 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2008 Both the toilet bi-fold doors are up These new doors definitely close and open better than the original HDB ones. Come to think of it, what happened to the original ones? Seems a pity to throw them away. Common toilet closed Common toilet opened Shower screen in MBR toilet also up. The installer paid attention to little details like adding a rubber cushion to prevent the swing door from touching the wall and rubber lining to better seal up the opening between the swing door and the static piece. hobbes187 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2008 Self Designed TV Console + TV Feature I decided that I should try to draw out how I visualize some of my carpentry to look like rather than hope that the ID can come up with something I like. So spending after spending 1 hr in front of the computer, I managed to draw out my ideal console and some feature walls to go with it. Comments are greatly welcomed Feature 1 Feature 2 Feature
skywolf 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2008 I vote for Feature 3. Although it's plain (2 lines across), but i think it'll bring out the length of yr wall-mounted tv. Thot that the other 2 will be kinda wasted in terms of designs as the TV may obstruct some part of the square/lines.
hobbes187 0 Report post Posted May 30, 2008 (edited) Self Designed MBR Corner TV Console This is a tough one to design! I am going along with sliding doors instead of the fold down glass doors the ID suggested. After so many permutations, I have yet to come up with one I'm truly satisfies with. These are the few better ones IMHO. Please give me some suggestions if you can MBR Corner 1 MBR Corner 2 MBR Corner 3 MBR Corner 4 Edited May 30, 2008 by hobbes187

I like the 1st and the 3rd one best but cant make up my mind. I guess the other 2 might not be obstructed by the TV cos I'm getting a 37" or 40" at most and from calculation, there will be space left on the side... hobbes187 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2008 Haven't been updating this blog much for the past week or so. Too busy with work and other stuff... Anyway this week, the aircon and lighting are all up. Just recieved permit for the window works so that should be next. Also, the carpentry should begin fabrication now and its the start of a long wait before everything can be installed. The paper protection on the floor has been removed and I guess the chemical will begin once the touch up of the tiling works are completed. Some pictures to share Living room lighting Warm light Warm + Day light I think the warm light is nice... If there is a need to brighten up the entire house, we can turn on both warm and day light but that will suck lots of electricity!! View from living room to dining room Ceiling fan I really like this fan! The 54" blades are a transparent arcylic material and it looks resort-tish yet modern. According to the shop, this is the latest model and definitely look better than the other wooden or metal blades fan I've seen so far I cant turn it on yet cos the wiring to the regulator is not done. It will be wired only after my carpentry is up since the regulator is going to be mounted on the side of the shoe cabinet. So I have no comments on the wind speed yet. Balcony cozy light The bird nest balcony light, together with the outdoorish tiles and warm wall colours, gives the balcony a really cozy feel. Too bad the balcony faces the next block so we cant put 2 relax chairs there MBR lights Simple downlight in the MBR Normal light Warm light Guestroom and study lights Both rooms are using the same light. Luckily our unit comes with concealed wiring so no trunkings are seen although there's no false ceiling here. Toilet and kitchen lights Nothing special in the choices of these areas. Chose practical and bright lights such as the dog bowl lights. Switches We decided to use the Hager switches provided by the electircian instead of changing everything to legrand. In terms of outlook, cant see much diff btw hager and the other brands. This is the Hager timer switch installed in the DB box to control my foyer light. The light will turn on everyday at a specific time. A really neat way to do it. Aircon Aircon is finally installed. We tested it for an hour and searched for leakage along the piping but eveything seems ok. We got the Mitsubishi Starmex Sys 3 Non invertor. Couldnt see how well the compressor was installed since the place was quite dark.
BunBun 5 Report post Posted June 8, 2008 the tv console looks really nice with the curved area. However I'm thinking that adding short curved shelves instead of feature above the tv console to give it a de-constructed look might look more special. I like the MBR TV Console no

I like the MBR TV Console no 3 Your curved shelves idea is interesting. Maybe I can do a sample of that when I have the time. I've asked my ID to come up with a new design for the MBR tv console. Waiting to see whether its better than mine.
hobbes187 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2008 Today we got the revised 3D diagram from the ID. And I'm glad we have finally approved it and measurement should commence tmr or the day after Living room - The console is done according to the design I drew for him. Seems I can be an ID too Shelter feature - We are 90% satisfied with the ID's design. After touching up with photoshop, we are going to go ahead with our self-edited version! ID version My photoshopped version Kitchen - Removed the other glass panel and lengthened one of the top cabinets. Also added 2 large drawers for placing pots and pans. MBR - Re-designed corner console. We find this acceptable and we know it is not easy to design this thing.
frostyflake 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2008 yr revised 3d drawings are indeed nicer! Esp love your shelter feature! But what is the difference btwn the ID one and your photoshopped one? I'm like trying to play the 'spot the difference' game but i can't find it donno why i keep finding other people's 3D are much nicer than mine

Anyway, I myself always think other ppl have nicer 3Ds too! You're not the only one and its always a case of "the grass is greener on the other side". Well maybe for us it's "the 3D drawing is nicer on the other side"
