simpleguy80 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 (edited) The thing now is my house is undergoing renovation and I am changing my basin and toilet bowl. Furthermore, the contractor has taken down the piping in the kitchen and toilets. So I am wondering should i make use of this time to change to copper pipe so I can save some costs like they no need to take down the piping again, etc. So can anyone let me know what is the current market price for copper piping? The contractor quoted me about 1k which I dunno is it the market price or the price has been discounted taking into consideration that they do not need to dismantle the piping again and the top up I have to pay if I intend to change to copper pipe instead of supplying me with new PVC pipes.Sorry for so long-winded. Nipponho 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2008 Hi Simei, Was yours done some time ago? Looks like u can't get such prices recently. Mine from kitchen window to toilets already cost $270, only very short distance.Simpleguy : Contractor will take down your piping and sell it away. U should have told them that u want to keep the copper piping, and trade in with the plumber. Old copper can be sold for money. Try to source for your own plumber instead of depending on contractor bec contractor will mark up. U can consider stainless steel to save money.

At that time, copper price is increasing, so copper pipe cost the same as SS, not sure whats the price now. But during that time, I asked for the price for marine grade SS piping, was quoted to be ~$1k, but the plumber say only ships use marine grade SS due to exposure to sea water, so far he never done that for home... ha ha. So we settle for the cheaper 18-10 grade SS piping (same grade as the pipes used by HDB outside our house). $1k for your case seems a little too much, your contractor trying to cover cost for something else? Suggest you compare quotes with a few plumber, if you going for SS, tell them you want the same grade of pipes used by HDB, (18-10). Hope this helps.
