Renovation Day 6 - More Tiling and wet works

Tiles and wet works continue in the kitchen and the toilets...

A huge pile of sand now occupies each bedroom

Old Aircon removed

Aircon has been removed by the Gain City guys on day 3 of hacking. Free of charge service only if they are informed before actually installation of the new aircon unit.

Renovation Day 7 (Easter Sunday)

We went back to see how the wall tiling in the kitchen goes.. all workers are resting today. Wall tiling is 60% done.

Renovation Day 12 (Handing over of taps and stuffs)

Met up with our ID today to hand over the taps and stuffs. The water pipes people also came in today to determine the positions of the pipes. Pretty busy day today!

According to our ID, toilet bowls and basins should be installed by Wed! Yipeee!

Renovation Day 10-11 (More tiles up and piping works)

The tiles we chose for the recess area is finally laid. Also water outlet and inlet in the toilets are up. Skirting also almost done in most bedrooms.

More will be up on Saturday. I'll be a bit busy from now till then.

My ID called me up today to give me some bad news and good news. The bad news is that the double glazed sliding windows for the bedrooms are out of production. However, he has managed to ask the supplier to give us casement windows instead at no extra cost. According to my ID, it's supposed to shut out more noise which is good!

Other than that, we visited a Teakwood shop down in Furniture Mall and we met an uncle who's a teakwood lover as well. Some stuff we learnt was about different grades of teakwood furniture, why some shops could sell it dirt cheap, while some are so expensive, quality of the finish, etc. In a nutshell the things we learnt were:

- dark stained teakwood furniture are usually cheaper as cheaper teakwood can be used due to the hiding of awful wood grains by the stain

- natural, smooth finished furniture with nice grains and thick slabs are usually better quality as these are taken from older trees which are more termite resistant and harder (young teak is actually whitish in color and soft)

- there are a few grades of teak, from A to C and the cheap young teakwood sapling grade.

The morale is you pay for what you get - cheap is not good, and good is never cheap. Take a look around and compare different teakwood furniture before buying. Don't be too compulsive and be taken in be cheap prices.

Renovation Day 16 (Plastering done)

Today we met up with our electrician and ID. Most tiling have been done up. Plastering really made with walls and ceilings smoother!

Reno Day 17 (Toilet bowl,basin, shower mixer,new kerb)

The *forgetten kerb is now up. Toilet bowls, shower mixers and basins in the toilets are also done up. We are especially pleased with the workmanship of the stroage heater guy because he did the copper pipping so well that it's hidden from view as it's being blocked by a pipe! (See pics below)
