It's not a silly question lah.....

We all hope that the ball dropping from the table won't damage the cement screed flooring.

However, looking at the flooring of those pool pubs that we frequent, we foresee having to make good the flooring after a few years.

Thus, we explored the hardiness of many types of flooring.

Carpet

This is Pistachio and he will be the Tang Jiong [lounge master in Cantonese]. So, no carpet for the lounge.

Checkered Plate

When we first met Mr Tan of Atlantis Lifestyle, he had even suggested getting checkered plates done. I thought it would be really cool but Tom said it's not good for us to put such metal stuff in that area due to FengShui reasons.

Cement Screed + Metal Strips

Mr Tan then suggested putting these metal strips and create sections of cement screed floor. It's easier to rectify and make good a section than having to redo the whole flooring.

I can't remember what other reasons for making these sections but Mr Tan explained that he had always done cement screed flooring for many places when he was younger and that it's better to do these sections.

my kitchen floor (bought a resale flat) will be hacked this week and cement screed for me as well. to divide the LR tiles and kitchen cement i hv ask for a cooper strip as a divider. for cement screed, do we need to lacquer? my contractor say no need to do anything just make it smooth ... i blur ....need help.

smoothen the flooring

i'm not sure about lacquer as that's not what the contractor had used. He said something in Mandarin which means nothing to me as I don't understand what's he's saying! There's a coating of one kind or another. I'll have to ask the ID again.

earlier today, we'd workers over to smoothen the flooring in the LR and MBR [the right side of the apartment; 1 unit of the 3 room flat]. tomorrow, it'd be the foyer, front room, kitchen and hopefully, the bathrooms and guest bedroom [the left side of the apartment; 1 unit of 3 room flat]. Even better if they could do the recess area tomorrow too.

min. height clearance

btw, do you have to hack the kitchen floor? is it still within the minimum height clearance?

for our apartment, it was overlaid twice and thus we had to hack off everything, otherwise we wouldn't meet the minimum height clearance. as it was, we felt like being in a hobbit's house with such a low ceiling throughout. we've a 2x3room unit and when it came to the kitchen wall that the 2 units shared, we had an issue with the supporting beam which made it such that we had to raise the floor level to almost the same as before! what a waste of time, money and effort!

Initially I had planned to do cement screed flooring for my living room but after hearing the negative remarks from IDs now I am seriously thinking not to proceed with cement scre

Majority of them said that Ugly cracks will appear on the floor after several months, this is beacuse the sand used by contractors are of inferior quality compared to 10 years ago and also the "masters" of cement screed flooring are already dead, taking their skills with them.

Hi, I'm new here.

I got my keys in Jan but no reno yet because of lack of funds and no confidence in the IDs/contractors who I've met.

My place is a 2-room bought through SOBF.

Right now, it has only bare rough concrete floor in the living room and bedroom. HDB technical officer told me if I want the term contractor to do the FOC cement screed, it'll be rough finish and dusty and multi-shades of grey and will not be as "good/nice/smooth" as the corridors which are done by the construction contractor.

The term contractor offered to do basic ceramic tiles (30x30) for the living room and bedroom at $1000. HDB TO said if I choose this, it will be private arrangement between me and the term contractor, nothing to do with HDB.

What should I do? Grateful for any advice. Thanks very much.

Forgot to mention: the ceramic tiles proposed by the HDB contractor is 30x30, the type used in kitchen. My floor area is 248 sqft ( living room + bedroom).

my house will be doing the cement screeding from HDB too. They told me that there are different level of cement screeding. 40mm,50mm,55mm. HDB give FOC is only 40mm which is not enough to be level with the toilet /lviing tiles..... And required to top up 100 dollar for each bedroom for addition level meaning total of 50mm-55mm. Anyone expereince this? I
