Hi

I'm just wondering....how do you really tell a person's an ID & not a contractor in disguise... :dancingqueen:

sorry if my question sounds silly, but I've got a resale to renovate & have approached some IDs. Frankly, after speaking to a few, they either talk or act more like contractors.

A couple has done so-called space-planning but I was surprised that it only involved drawing grids & shapes on my floorplan. I was expecting something more professional than this level.

Is that how it's done here?

Really at my wits end. And I just got quoted $36k for a 3-rm. Is that decent?

36k is a LOT!:sport-smiley-004:!!

a real ID is one that charges you a few Ks just for designing.

It's a Chicken and egg issue, if you ID are so reluctant to provide intial service or proper quote. We'll take our business elsewhere, Simple. Dun have to let these that are not interest make our $.

Most ID can do all that you mentioned if they are really trained & have experienced.

Well client also waste time seeing & listen your ideas & drawings and whether the ID suite them.

Money should be the last thing on professional ID mind. If the job or design is good, it's natural that that ID will have more future business. It's all about 'word of mouth' in this competitive business.

You expect potential clients give you the cheque first and then you draw is it?

Franking speaking, a ID in simpler term is a project coordinator who work on projects fm conception to completion. Primarily putting your wants/ ideas together to do up your home sweet home & address to your concerns within a designated budget. Working behind the scene w/ the actual Interior Designer to draft out the floorplan & design theme, getting contractors to do the actual tiling/ glass/ carpentry/ painting/ electrical work, and etc.

fyi, many Phua Chu Kang started off as juz a contractor Co. By large due to market demands for a better packaged reno std, the middle man service ID was introduced. And also many ID Co. set up work on the basis of a grp of regular contractors they trust & used for their reno projects. Hope this helps :jawdrop:

You know - interior design is a highly regarded skill overseas. I only wish people who go by the title could treat their profession with pride.

I had read some of your comments and find that some of it are quite true but just that you make it sounds very rude.

In any industries, there bound to have good n bad clients just as much as service provider. I would put in a way that, everyone of us, be it client or service provider have each requirements of their own. If you feel that clients are all so suck up and unreasonable then what's the point of staying in this trade? Our duties is to educate our clients to understand why different companies provide different package, pricing etc. If they can't accept what your explainations, it don't mean they are a bunch of idiots just that they are also humans that have their own thoughts too.

Furthermore, when you respect your clients as much as you treat them as your friends then I belive they will, at the same time appreciate your effort and show you the respect you deserve.

We had enough of bad names and reputations which makes some of us who wish to make a decent living very difficult especially a new setup so please kindly don't further tarnish our industry reputation.

Thank you!

Just my humble opinion, no offence and my apologies to anyone felt offended.

Wow...you mean potential customers ask many questions and not yet sign up with your company and you feel piss off?

Then in the very first place, you shld tell the potential customers : "You wanna confirm to let me renovate their house or not ? If not then dont waste my time."

Then that will be better for both party isnt?
