What To Do? Pc - Question . . .

Intel Core 2 Duo E6300

Asus P5N-E SLI

Xpertvision 7900GS Sonic 256MB

1GB Kingston DDR2-667

Seagate 320MB SATA

LG 20" Wide Screen 204WT

Audigy

ASUS 18xDVDRW Lightscribe SATA

Silverstone ST50EF+ Element

Silverstone TJ-04

question i'm wondering if my RAM is too little... lol.. coz my wife's laptop actually starts up and shuts down very much faster than my PC..

my wife's laptop is Core 2 Duo 3 gig ram though.. lol.. is that the main reason?

thinking of buying another 7900 gs so can run sli but then i don't think can't find the 7900gs anymore.. lol..

if not maybe would wanna buy a 8series sli when the 9series come out.. but then.. sigh.. wait awhile first..

should i just buy another 1/2gig ram? heh heh.. i think ram prices are quite cheap now huh..

do you have a lot of startup programs? if so, u may want to look into it, reduce the no. of startup programs.

Or you can add another 1 gig ram. Are u running on XP / Vista ?

bro, delete all the temp folders, internet shortcut files other not required data into the PC.

If you really need extra HDD (hard disc then better go get one extra). How much voltage is your power supply? 800Watts or less?

As for RAM issues it can support up to 8GB. So if you want u can fully increase the ram to 8GB.

fyi 7900 series dont get extra pic not worth it. wait for this coming PC show on march second week. then get a better graphic card.

if you are running vista dont update the new service pack 1. there are still some unsolve bugs. This goes to XP service pack 3 too. Wait for a while then update.

shutdown problems got nothing to do with hardware.(seldom)

most likely you installed a hheellll lot of programs than your wife do.

go install this software and clean up your pc.

In UNIX we have startup and shutdown scripts, K01...., S01... where we can manupilate the items we wanted to start up and shutdown. How about the Windows, do we have such?

Thanks maybe can use the build in resource kit "shutdown commands with /f /r parameter to force kill all applications and restart it....

Registry key hive maybe too complex to some users.

Run MSCONFIG. then unclick those items which you will not need for startup.

Af ew places to manupilate the startup process, the startup folder in start menu, the registry "run" key under HKLM/HKCU, system startup services, Kernel VXD startup..... so many places but just not able to control the shutdown process.

Not when the Mac is running Intel Chips. lol..

Furthermore, the rig is still pretty new. Its just vista that i don't like.

I prefer NT actually. thats the best build in my opinion apart from XP with SP2

whoa .. u guys are **** solid.. heh heh..

only time i know how to manipulate was when i was running windows 3.1

those days games were running on conventional memory and expanded memory subsquently..

had to edit the file to load unload programs and utilities to free up enuff memory to play games..

Most of the time startup slowness could likely be due to the startup services in your local machine.

You can always out look for the no of service startup in the control panel. Is there any fail startup services?...Any system agents running like inventory collection? Any software update services? GPO objects running backend? logon script?... virus realtime startup scan? ...

So many things running on the background of a user's machine.....
