I WOULD LIKE TO REFER to the forum posts by user, "zentheman" with regards to the services rendered by our painters (dated 27/03/08, 28/03/08, 01/04/08, 03/04/08).

City Painters regrets the experience of a valuable client. Though each refurbishing project differs and demands for its customised remedy, we do not compromise on the quality of our service, the proficiency of our painters, or the materials used; and we take all feedback very seriously.

City Painters has been dedicated to providing professional painting services and quality materials that meet industry standards at prices that are affordable to the masses; to both residential and commercial clients since the 1970s, and clients have identified us with reliability, honesty and quality over the years.

Our painters were engaged by the client for the five room HDB apartment painting/ refurbishing project in Serangoon for a sum of S$750 early this year, and it has been confirmed that we were in receipt of an after- service request informing us of a peeling paint coat in the apartment's bathroom ceiling; about two weeks after the project was completed and inspected as scheduled- according the specifications ordered by the client.

A complementary touch- up appointment had been urgently scheduled by the project manager, and a painter was dispatched to the site to scrape, sand and remove the peeling coat, treat and prepare the affected area, before the re- application of sealer, and two new coats of paint.

The thorough surface preparation and the new coats, however, did not resolve the issue as the problem persisted due to severe moisture build- up in the plastering on the ceiling. The client have been advised to engage a mason to resolve the source of the moisture seepage in the affected area before proceeding further with the painting project.

We would therefore like to provide an advisory to our consumers on the causes and preventive measures that you could take to help prevent peeling/ flaking/ blistering paint:

Effects on moisture seepage on the paint coat

- A peeling/ flaking/ blistering paint coat is usually caused by moisture that accumulates beneath the paint surface. (Absorptive materials such as drywalls are easily prone to moisture build- ups.) The repeated absorbing and drying of moisture results in the breach of the paint film, which eventually lifts from the surface it is painted on.

- Areas around the bathrooms, kitchens and basements are more susceptible to moisture build- ups.

- Removal of humid air in enclosed areas (such as bathrooms) is especially important in the warm local climate. Excessive humidity and heat causes condensation, which leads failure of paint film, mold or mildew. This could be corrected by installing moisture/ exhaust fans and attic louvers.

- The peeling/ flaking/ blistering paint problem would not be resolved simply by the re- application of sealer/ primer and high quality paint. It would be a waste of time and resources if the source of the moisture seepage/ build- up is not eliminated. You may wish to do so by requesting the assistance of your local Town Council to locate the external source of the seepage, and a mason to grind and remove the affected plastering/ dry wall, if required.

i am looking for a painter. can anyone recommend one besides citipainter? has anyone tried those nippon paint appointed painters which is advertised very frequently.

To all consumers like us, i think the main worry is to worsen the things when i want to get something done. Nevertheless i had just completed my 5-rm paintings recently. Was promised to complete by 3 days but i actually request more. (",) so in e end my flat was handed over to me on the 5th day. Overall, I am pretty much satisfied with their services. All the request made by me were given done at no additonal cost for me. Maybe you would like to check with them. Those interested to view some of the paints jobs done by them on my flat can pm me.
