Hd Or Hd Ready?

Recommended Posts

Hi!

Was wondering... can anyone advise me here?

Should I get a Full HD or HD Ready LCD tv?

If I get a HD tv, do i still need to get the HD box? or only if I get the HD Ready tv then I need this HD box? How much does this HD box costs?

Is it true that if I do not subscribe to Singtel or Starhub HD programs, then its quite useless to get HD tv?

Thanks!!

U need a HD set-up box in order to enjoy a full HD even u subsribe to cable. It costs about $250 ~ $300.

You also need a blue -ray or HD DVD player to get a full HD effect but u may not able to watch pirated DVD.

But Full HD has a better resolution and contrast ratio as compared to HD ready. Size also plays a part.

For 26 to 37 inch, HD ready is good enough

For > 37inch, go for full HD if you have the budget.

if you watch tv programmes a lot - hd or no hd imho doesnt have much difference.

but if you into dvd movies - yes.

go for the resolution.

Can you afford to wait in May. Will have another PC show that definitely give u a good discount.

I bought my Full HD Samsung N series 40inch at PC show for $2300 nett with installation. Heavy bargain with the salesman at the last day.

Today tis model cost > $3.4k if no roadshow.

Go for Samsung as the LCD technology is more advanced and price ok.

starhub promo not worth

got to pay $100+ for the set-top box AND subscribe to the HD channels at $16+ every month

me using HD-ready plasma, coz i think by the time HD becomes the norm OLED is the norm too

might as well upgrade to HD OLED :yamseng::dunno:

Before you get engulfed by the world of all the tech stuff, you should try take a step back - go to any of the showrooms (best denki / courts / HN etc) and compare the tv side by side!

Don't just buy for the sake of the tv specs but for what you see / like...

Totally agreed with niwdehos. :)

Individual got their own preference and standards. :notti:

If 80% of the time is TV program then HD Ready is good enough for u no point paying extra for FULL HD and only get to enjoy two HD channel. Although they said is for future proof but future will alway come out with better quality so go according to ur needs.

And for wat I knw is if u wan full effect on FULL HD must get at least 50inch screen then u can see the tiny hair of that person. :dunno:

Try Pioneer 8th Generation Plasma although they are HD Ready but watching them will make u :(:)

HD or HD Ready, personally would go for plasma over LCD.

The electricity comsumption is high for plasma, esp 40inch & above.

if want plasma go for panasonic

Go for better resolution and contrast ratio, they have significant diff for 40inch & above.

Any thing less than 40inch, can go with simple spec.

totally agree.

go and compare the tvs, buy the one that your eyes feel most comfortable with at the cheapest price.

no point paying a premium of a few hundred for the specs that you can tell anyway :P8|
