xinyi_reiko 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 mine is just tiles.....i seldom cook so stains are not a problem for me...if your mum cooks often, better not to have tiles otherwise the grooves long term will collect dirt and grease.... hmm okok.. i shall ask her if she want metal backing.. i just went to read around.. glass is not advisable for heavy cooking LOL.. SS backing.. no way getting from ikea ah.. sure get the contractor to do.. glass backing for heavy cooking will crack.. just like tiles.. my parent's kitchen already have cracks for tiles backing.. rust... it all depends on maintenance already.. mine also metal backing.. it did rust alittle.. probably previous owner would have maintain it better.. but can use anti rust solution to overcoat once a while to prevent rust..
