niwdehos 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2007 After 2 years of Tokyo worklife and countless Tonkatsu (best with karashi), I was looking forward to moving back to sg and into my new "old" flat at Jurong East St 21. Why new "old"? A new lease of life in a 5 room flat that is part of a 25 year OLD (?) point block, and this also, used to be the humble abode of my late grandparents... Not an ideal time to start a reno with material cost rising you might say (even wheat is at all time high) but well, so when really is a good time? Anyway, mind set with a reno budget of $40-45k, I started my search for that elusive ID that could fulfil all my reno criteria and of course, staying within the financial boundary - needless to say, that wasn't easy. Caught between a rock and a hard place, do I stay within my budget and compromise on quality, I eventually took the plunge and launch into a full scale reno, and yes, without the engagement of a professional ID. Not an unusual step but well, some things turned out ok while others, hmm... urmmmph, look on to find out.... Here are the "specs" (??? ! ! !?)ID - myself.... Ho ho ho....ha ha ha...Contractor - Poh Sia Construction and EngineeringCapentry - Liang He Seng FurnitureFurniture - sofa from Ritz Rymen at furniture mall, dining table from mondi... Bathroom accessories - its all about timing the Grohe and Hansgrohe sale! W.C. (how many of us actually know what does W C stand for) from Rigel... Kitchen using Rinnai Hood & Hob.. Lightings from Design Light, Chan Huat, Lightz D Shop and KDK fan from Lim Kim Thye... TV, Panny plasma TH42PV70H (living) and Sharp Aquos LC-32BX5M (mbr) Sound provided by Denon AVR 1907 using Def Tech Pro 600 7.1 w Xindak XF 2000, Philips dvp5986k (living) and Pioneer MF5-DVD using belden 1694a (mbr), Philips MCD 288 (dining) Fridge Sharp SJ-P68M Washer Sharp ES-AG1250FSW / Dryer Electrolux EDM606A Comp / Router / Tablet...this will be endlessAnyway, 2 months later and 60k poorer (not to mention numerous sleepless nights worrying about my f***up design & coordination), I finally have some pictures to show...The theme of the house - simple, spacious (roomy enough for my baby to roam about in her walker...), and easy to clean...Here we go...Living room (before and after)More pics to follow later... I figured that, without much reno / design experience, going for a combi of white base with different shades of grey would be easy enough for me to work around.Yeah, Water Closet, i have the link embedded but guess you're too lazy to click.. haha... niwdehos 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2008 Here's some pics taken over the new year weekend...Light @ entranceEntrance (clock, concealed shoe cabinet + concealed entrance to storeroom) my grey sofa / curtainSofa relfection in the mirror and my white subwoofer !!Surround speakers / sofamy AV stuff... my self-designed TV console... Hallway featuring a bench (cum concealed storage space) and my radio...A closer look at my philips cd player... my dining table / area not exactly part of the reno but since i've taken pics, here's my baby's mattress...and roamer! btw can ask how's the workmanship of your carpenter? thinking of adding some carpentry itemsWell, you can see the workmanship from the pics of my tv console and storage bench along the walkway. Obviously i wouldn't say he's the best but definitely good enough for me!As mentioned earlier, i was my own interior designer so had to provide drawings / measurements etc for my carpenter to work on so if the design looks weird, then that has to be my fault!
