Kitchen Sink Cabinet

Hi,

Do you see a need to use tiles for the Kitchen Sink Cabinet?

We have a bad experience with our existing house sink. The cabinet keeps decaying because water keeps seeping into the cabinet. It is likely because we are currently using a cheap type of Laminate top.

We forgot to ask our ID/contractor during our initial quotation. Now my ID/contractor told me that in order to put tiles below the kitchen sink, we have to build concrete wall. And he mentioned that it costs more than 1k. Is this expensive?

He also mentioned that since we are using solid top and with undermount sink, there is no risk of water seeping in. Is that a correct statement?

my concrete sink support with granite countertop is $1,080

whether water seep in or not depends on a lot of factors

for instance, condensation at the bottom of the sink

or the sealant wears off, or unfortunately your water pipe burst

Hi all,

I am having problem with my kitchen sink cabinet due to bad design. The wood unenderneath starts to rot as water seeps from the mixer tap pipe.

As such i am thinking of modifying the kitchen sink. Any kind soul can recommend a reliable carpenter/plumber with good workmanship? Do not want to go back to the same contractor who did the job:(

Work to be done :

1. To cut a bigger hole on the existing table top to accomodate the new sink. Existing sink is of undermount type, changing to drop in type.

2. To replace the rotten part of the wood if possible.

3. Redo the drain pipe etc as my current sink is of single bowl type, changing to double bowl.

Yes, expensive to have concrete support.

But I am on for concrete support ONLY for basin and stove.

It is better to have concrete especially when water involved.

Over time, maybe 10 yrs, I afraid wood cannot stand the water!

The rest will be normal cabinet support.

no i only do concrete sink support, a total of 4ft nia

so that works out to about $270pfr for a concrete sink support INCLUDING blue pearl granite top

Can I check with you - is your sink support using homogenious tiles ? if so, is it difficult to maintain ? does it get stains very easily ? oso, does the grouting between tiles get dirty easily ?

For my new place, my mum is considering doing tiles support for sink & stove cos it should be able to last longer. However, our kitchen may look very old-fashioned and also worried about the maintenance part.

however, the tiled sides and bottom is quite easy to clean

won't consider concrete supports old-fashioned, just not 'in' now

i hv concrete solid support for my sink+ stove too. not v big, same tiles as my homo wall tiles., no laminate. ID charged me 600$ for that. i got it at my parents' insistence because their sink @ home is rotting n having leakage problem coz is wood.

Usually mkt rate for concrete is around less than $150 pfr.

You need to know how many per foot for your sink + stove...then you will know how much your id charge you per foot run.

My mum gonna have blue pearl for kitchen top.

For me...I will not use the same as my mum...maybe other if got the same price like Blue Diamond, Silver Blue, Midnite Blue or Steel grey.

Actully not many pple using blue pearl (too expensive), many opt for solid top.

actually the better quality solid tops are more expensive than granite tops

corian by dupont, LG etc are around $140 pfr

think i really got a very good deal at $100 pfr for my countertop

think it's really up to the individual bah

some prefer the beauty of natural stone - like me

some prefer the seamless and uniformed colour of solid top

Anyone knows how much ur contractors or IDs charge for building a concrete bottom for kitchen sink? Any good recommendation for renovators who did kitchen sink at a reasonable price?
