i *think*, and i haven't been updated in a while, the Apple iPhone is locked to the AT &T network in the US, so cannot use other telco. some kid actually managed to unlock it, but then Apple released an update that will 'break' the unlocking. so you can't actually do anything on it yet, apart from surf and watch vids.

Go to Facebook to join the iphone community in Singapore. A bunch of genius hackers have broken the code, so you can use iphone in Singapore.

Just DO NOT upgrade your software using the software upgrade from Apple. Use the version that's been modified by the hackers. Apparently Apple found out that hackers have broken the code that locks the phone to be used only on AT & T network, and inserted a code in the software upgrade to freeze the phone sets, which makes them completely unusable. Just make sure you do not use anything direct from Apple until you check with the folks on Facebook.

I got my sisters 2 units of iPhone directly from the US for USD865. So, it's approx S$650 EACH.

for me it's not really advisable to hack the phone

coz you'll not benefit from the updates released by apple

the phone will be more vulnerable to malware esp if you are going to surf the net

since it's gonna to launched in singapore next year, why not wait a little longer as the newer version gonna be 3G with bigger storage, better functions and (crossing my fingers) removable batteries...

not to mention the price will just keep going one direction - down

it's already been launched in europe, the better version

apple stopped producing the 4GB version, rumours is second quarter of 2008 in asia

as for the locking of the phone, it locked to the service provider

which is not practiced in singapore

launching in Nov. and even then, it looks like they're locked. UK to O2, germany to T-mobile. which telco is going to have the exclusive rights to the iPhone in SG?? :notti::P:o

if it's really gonna be locked i can only pray fervently that it's singtel

however, i still think it's not gonna be locked coz that'll be a first

and MDA is definitely gonna step in, in the spirit of healthy competition

also, it's common practice to lock phones to service providers in those countries...

That's not entirely true too. Just don't use the version direct from Apple. Wait a couple of weeks each time for the hackers to figure it out, and then I think all will be fine again.

Whatever it is .... just join the iphone group in Facebook for all the latest updates.
