I am a completely newbie at scraping off wall paint but I can at least say that I tried to DIY, made a mess of it, and then called my main con to rectify what I did. I'd old wall paint falling off, and thought I could scrape them all off my myself, and then repaint with a sealer, and paint the wall all by myself. Well, the loose paint fell off instantly, but the most part of the wall still had paint that stuck to it. It became very uneven.

My main con sent in his free lance wall plastering workers and sorted out the problem (I hear there is a team of these wall plastering guys from Malaysia who makes their rounds from home to home in Singapore. Was told Singaporeans do not want to do this type of job)

In your case, I am wondering if wall plastering is the way to go? I did check the Yellow Pages, and there are 2 listing of wall plastering companies. Why not check them out first?

to start with, was the wall even in the first place before?

if it's the old old flat type where you can see the brick outline, you gotta get it plastered.

if not, you can actually use a scrapper, as in those used to remove chewing gum from the floor, and go over every inch of the wall

after that, run you hand on the wall and sand down those uneven places :dunno:

the most important thing about DIY is - have you done it before?

grinding the wall can be very tedious - you need a grinder($60-$120), lots of putty filler plus one thing most pple dont have - lots of free hours.

Wee Theng,

I DIY my whole unit's wall... cos have the grinder...

If u wana grind urself, pls wear a mask, towel to wrap ur head & those eye mask (sound like for beauty care, duno what's that call)... else you will inhale the dust, ur hair full of dust which will be difficult to wash off & makes ur eyes itchy... Another disgusting thing is ur nostril hair will be white... LOL... That's what happened to my husband.... We used 2 days just to grind, putty-ing, sandpaper to smooth the surface... *faint*
