hi warrior88, thank you very much! :yamseng:

2 m viewing distance, 37" screen suitable... but now where got 37" plasma one?? only got LCD for 37" size

and i think 37" LCD even more ex than 42" plasma :jawdrop:

Is it ? I don't know Plasma, never occur to me to check cos consume high power

But 37" LCD ( dynamic contrast 7000 ~ 8000 ) around $2000 ~ $2300 right ?

But 37" LCD ( dynamic contrast 7000 ~ 8000 ) around $2000 ~ $2300 right ?

a comparison of the power consumption and electricity bill of using 37' plasma vs 37" LCD...

plasma: panasonic VIERA TH-37PV70H

LCD: hitachi 37LD900TA

watch TV mon to fri from 7pm to 12mn

sat and sun 2pm to 12mn

total viewing hours per month = 180 hrs

power input:

plasma = 0.31 kW

LCD = 0.18 kW

elec consumption per month:

plasma = 180 * 0.31 = 55.8 kW

LCD = 180 * 0.18 = 32.4 kW

elec bill per month @ $0.20 / kWh:

plasma = 55.8 * $0.20 = $11.16

LCD = 32.4 * $0.20 = $6.48

difference per month= $4.68

If 37" plasma is cheaper than 37" LCD by $200, and u get the plasma, u save $200 upfront, and this amount could pay for the $4.68 increase in elec bill for 42 months, or nearly 3.5 years...

furthermore, plasma has sharper contrast, brighter images, more brilliant colors and faster response time...

so i would think the plasma is a pretty good buy compared with LCD...

anyway, just to share my opinions lah... :)

My Elect bill already exceed the normal average ..

So must jump to the next bracket .. not sure the rate.

Plasma, heavy, hot, got burn-in effect, reflection on the screen.

Lower life span.

LCD - high resolution & contrast now

Last time cannot beat plasma .. now already improve

Response time ... can actually see the difference meh...

Me no play game on TV, only on computer

Lastly, only colour is the problem, blasck & white ... ( not true tone )

But I think the Full HD version already corrected this problem

just some additional info...

the current generation of plasma already does not have the burn in effect... e.g. the hitachi plasma has the alternate lighting system that prevents burn in...

life span of plasma is on par with LCD... 60000 hrs...

typical plasma brightness is 1000 to 1500 cd/m2

typical LCD brightness is 500 cd/m2

typical plasma contrast is 10,000:1 to 15,000:1

typical LCD contrast is 5000:1 to 10000:1

response time effect can be visible when watching high speed action like sports...

full HD refers to the number of lines on the screen (1080p)... it has nothing to do with black/white contrast...

well explained...

so many pple have wrong concept..

they think only LCD technology is advancing..

and nice calculation on the electrical bill.

remember...LCD looks nice, only on HD..

as for response time, it's not about gaming.. but watching fast action movie, sports etc

hitachi 42" plasma 42PD9500TA is a good model... one of the highest resolution for plasma in the market now... 1024 x 1080... normal plasma e.g. samsung PS-42C91H is only 1024 x 768...

hitachi price is abt the same as samsung... at gain city CCK opening sales, hitachi 42PD9500TA is $2388 including a hitachi HTS... samsung PS-42C91H is abt $2000 without HTS... so for just the tv alone, price is comparable :yamseng:

i have both lcd for mbr and plasma for living

my comment is for normal eyes, wont notice significantly any difference in picture quality.....

plasma have wider angle of view

the major issue for plasma is sunlight reflection on the screen

u know what ?

I went to my parent's house and look at their 34" CRT TV..and I also come to realised the reflecting is worst...but I watch on that TV for 10 years !! but did I complain ???

anyway, it's entirely up to you...remember, light travels in straight line..

hi jenrocks! thank you!:P:yamseng:

hmm, think i can stretch my viewing distance to abt 2.5 m... so still may want to get the 42" hitachi plasma... the price diff between 37" plasma and 42" plasma only $100-$200, might as well go for the 42" plasma one... somemore hitachi one is made in japan and 1024*1080 resolution... :rolleyes::deal:

This depends on your requirements, room size and most important your budget.

Plasma

--------

If you watch a lot of SD local channel than definitely Plasma is much much better than LCD. True color reproduction is much better in Plasma screen.

If you are planning to watch lots of movies & sports then LCD cannot match the smoothness of the Plasma.

New Plasma these days are less likely to have burn-in these days due to improve technology & features. Image retention for a short while is possible though.

If budget allow then go for Pioneer (best screen & more customisation & calibration features...7G only 24p) otherwise can consider Panasonic (24/50/60p) or Samsung (higher contrast).

LCD

-----

If you need something smaller screen (less than 42inch) then only LCD.

If you need full HD resolution (1920 x 1280) then LCD is currently less costly.

P.S: Fully agree with what redbottle mentioned above.

If can wait then wait till Christmas time where there are many many new models launching and price should be very favorable on todays best screens.

so it's better to buy a Plasma then LCD...
