mamapea 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2007 Just wondering on the question above. Find that the electrical quote for our place is just too expensive. The bulk is in the Lbox wiring for downlights. $35 + 10 for each point. Total estimate is $1800.Does contractor usually allow us to choose our own electrician if we can find cheaper quote?Anyone can recommend one please.
lifestyle 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2007 For ID it should not be a problem to source your own electrician....should be the same for contractors.Best is to ask for a lower price on your electrical charges and have the contractor responsible for his electrician...if anything wrong just leave him to arrange. Otherwise if you engaged in your electrician (which generally can be cheaper) but you need to arrange all parties involved for meetups, and can be time consuming & a lot of hassel for you. Own electrician must be a reliable & responsive type otherwise it just not worth the trouble & cost saving.Just wondering on the question above. latitude 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2007 (edited) usually do not recommend sub-con cos it really will be a hassle to co-ordinate. if yr main-con is not co-operative (ie. sour that u dun use him for electrical works) it's worst. if not managed properly, at lot of finger pointing later on. zirhk3355 1 Report post Posted October 9, 2007 (edited) Yes it is very important that you check if your contractor is ok for you to get your own electrician, plus also make sure you have a reliable one.Never get one just because they are cheaper or recommended by friends; it may backfire and give you more headaches. See my blog for problems you can have if you engage your own electrician. Do some homework and you will know the market rate, choose the reasonable one, NOT the cheapest one.
