armani 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 Hi all, i've a burning question to ask bout magnetic and electronic ballast.Need all the experts advise on this topic because tried to hunt high and low for answers to this question but can't find the answers.Hope i could help some of the ppl out here by starting this thread. Let's all save some money on our bills. 1. Can i know how much enery effiency is electronic vs magnetic ballast?2. What's the average cost of a magnetic ad electrical ballast?3. Can this electronic ballast be used on PLC downlights, round fluorescent lights?4. How much savings when using electronic ballast against magnetic ballast? yoongf 11 Report post Posted September 29, 2007 can PLC downlights use electronic ballast or it's by default using electronic ballastPLC downlights are known as CFL (non integrated). If just buy from normal lighting shop, is 100% give u magnetic ballast cos is cheaper. However, if u go to specialist shops that cater to contractors, electronic ballast for PLC is available. But that means someone else need to swap the ballast in the fixture.electronic ballast vs magnetic ballast is not the issue of "energy saving", but more of "less energy wasting". By using electronics to control the current, less heat is generated, and u will also get the "inverter light" effect.

fishpond 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2007 What do you guys think of megaman. They have wide range of products from dimmable CFCs without ballast to very slim down lights (for those who have low ceilings)
Frigid 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2008 (edited) electronic ballast waste about 3 watts of power as compared to magnetic ballasts which wastes about 10 watts. this power is wasted coz it is not used to convert into light. so you're reducing the power wastage by quite significant when you use electronic ballast. (edit: sorry for thread digging, i did not realize this last post was 1 year ago!) Edited December 3, 2008 by Frigid
