How to repel sun's heat from roof?

Hi Hi

My house has sloping concrete roofs, exposed to direct sunlight. The house (esp the attic) can get rather warm on hot days.  And the recent hot scorching weather has set me pondering what I can do to shield the roof or repel the sun's direct heat from it.

Will painting the exterior with solar reflecting paint/coating help much? Does anyone have done anything for a similar purpose that has had a good/satisfactory outcome in recent years?
